First Semifinal of this little “European Championship” is set to be the highlight of this stage. France had the easier group, winning against Australia (2-1) and Peru (1-0), leaving the last game with a goalless draw against Denmark. The thriller against Argentina followed, but Mbappe sealed the deal with 2 goals and France pushed through with a 4-3 win. South America took another hit when Suarez & Co. lost (0-2). For the moment, Les Bleus have a 2.58* chance of winning this match, being the favorites.
Belgium is one of the biggest surprises of this tournament and they showed their offensive power in the Group stage winning against Panama (3-0), Tunisia (5-2) and England (1-0). In the next stage everybody was expecting Japan to meet Brazil in the quarterfinals, leading 2-0 until the 69th minute, but Vertonghen, Fellaini and Chadli disagreed and took Belgium into the next stage. In the Quarterfinals we can say that Brazil was the underdog, and Belgium delivered: 2-1 and now The Red Devils have odds of 3.20* for advancing to the big Final.
Croatia won all three games in the group: 2-0 against Nigeria, 3-0 against Argentina and 2-1 against Iceland. The playoffs proved that Modric and his team mates can hold their composure until the penalties, where they defeated Denmark and the hosts Russia after two exhausting fixtures. Undefeated at this World Cup, they are still the underdogs with highest odds at 3.65*.
England began their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 victory against Tunisia and a total demolition match versus Panama (6-1). They lost against Belgium in the last match of the group and struggled in the next round against Colombia, but managed to qualify for the quarterfinals where they had no problems in eliminating Sweden, with the goals of Maguire and Alli. The Brits are considered favorites, with highest odds at 2.40* for the moment. All eyes on Kane, of course!
