Raya picks up his third straight Golden Glove

You can make a fair case that Arsenal’s defensive consistency has been the foundation of their season and Raya is a huge part of that. The clean sheets, the calmness, the way he fits the system, all of it matters. But the longer this goes on the more ridiculous the Spain situation looks and honestly it feels like people are just refusing to admit what is right in front of them because they were too busy backing other names and now they look absolutely daft
 
Had a lad in the pub last night trying to tell me keepers are all the same if the defence is good and I nearly choked on my pint because that is exactly the sort of nonsense people come out with when they have not watched enough football, Raya has been making the difference for ages now and Arsenal fans have been saying it, and now he is picking up another Golden Glove while people are still pretending he is some kind of system merchant, mental really
 
The officials have had nothing to do with the award itself but the way some referees let games get chaotic around Arsenal this season has been ridiculous and it only makes Raya’s job harder because he is constantly having to deal with random contact, corners, second balls and all sorts of nonsense while the ref stands there doing nothing and then everyone acts surprised when he still comes out with another clean sheet
 
The award is a fair reflection of both individual quality and collective organisation. Raya has clearly been excellent, but it is also true that Arsenal have built a defensive platform that lets him show that level consistently. That combination is what makes him stand out.
 
At first glance this looks like a simple clean sheet award, but the more you think about it the more it becomes a statement about how Arsenal play and how Raya fits them. He is good with the ball, he is composed, he takes pressure off the back line, and he has clearly won games for them too. Then you remember people spent ages arguing over whether he should even be there and it just turns into pure frustration because the whole debate aged terribly and now everyone who doubted him looks clueless
 
The sensible point is that clean sheets are always a team metric, so it is fair to credit the full defensive unit as much as the keeper. But Raya still has to make the big stops and keep the line organised, and that is why the award matters. Also the fact Spain still do not start him is the sort of thing that turns every discussion into a proper argument and somehow you end up with people comparing keepers, managers, media takes, and old transfer debates all in one breath
 
the same people saying he is nothing special were the ones screaming about ramsdale every week and now theyre nowhere to be seen because raya has made them all look stupid as hell and the funniest part is they still try to pretend they were never against it in the first place
 
If you want to judge it properly, you have to separate the keeper from the system a bit. Raya has obviously benefited from Arsenal being so structured, but his distribution and decision making are what make that structure work at a higher level, and that is why this keeps feeling deserved rather than just convenient
 
He has been one of the most important signings for that side because he gives them control as well as saves, and that is why the debate around him looks silly now imo
 
People really need to stop acting like this is some fluke or some award handed out because Arsenal are popular because it is not, Raya has been brilliant all season, he has made the saves when needed, he has helped them play out, he has kept them calm, and every time someone says oh but the defence is good they miss that the keeper is part of making it good in the first place, and honestly the Spain thing is just baffling at this stage because if you are watching the games and still not convinced then what exactly are you watching
