Mourinho back to Real Madrid

I actually think people are being far too harsh on the losing side of this story because if Madrid do go with Mourinho then it does not automatically mean they have made a terrible choice or that everyone else in Europe is somehow smarter, it just means they want a manager with authority and a proven history of surviving pressure and there is value in that even if it is not pretty all the time. Some clubs need calm, some clubs need order, and some clubs need somebody who walks into the room and changes the mood instantly. Mourinho can still do that, and if the squad respects him then this could look a lot better than the doom merchants are saying. Everyone loves to act like older managers are useless the second the hype fades but football is not a video game and experience still matters more than people admit

madrid really woke up and chose violence because this is exactly the sort of thing that gets the whole football world talking and now every rival fan is gonna be sat there waiting for the first meltdown and the first big quote and the first time someone gets put on blast in public

A measured way to look at it is that Real Madrid are probably betting on personality and proven big game experience rather than long term project building, which is fair enough if they think the squad needs a stronger hand. But once you say that out loud, you also have to admit how strange it is that this sort of appointment still exists in modern football because the whole sport now runs on branding, optics and constant noise, and Mourinho is basically the final boss of all three. He turns every job into a referendum on his own legacy and somehow that is still compelling even when it makes no sense whatsoever

From a tactical angle, Mourinho gives Madrid a much clearer defensive structure and a stronger sense of control in big matches. The question is whether that comes at the cost of the fluidity and freedom the squad often wants, because the balance between discipline and expression will define whether this works.
