Southampton lose appeal, chaos continues

The key point is that the admission removes most of the room for argument. Once that happens, the appeal becomes more about damage control than genuine belief in success, and that is usually a bad sign for the club.
 
Had a lad in the pub last night saying this is why football is ruined and then he spent twenty minutes arguing that every club does it and nobody gets punished properly and by the end of it he was basically trying to convince himself that three wrongs somehow make a right, which was funny because he was drinking out of a pint glass with a Southampton badge on it and getting more and more worked up every time someone mentioned the appeal, then he started saying the whole system is corrupt and that the owners should be forced out and honestly by that point everyone else had moved on to talking about the darts but he kept going like he was presenting a case in court
 
The cleanest reading of this is that the club made a bad decision, admitted it, and then had very little left to argue. That part is straightforward. What is less straightforward is how much damage follows, because once a club gets labelled in this way people start attaching every possible consequence to it and suddenly the story becomes bigger than the original issue and everyone is talking about collapse, sponsorship, bans, lawsuits, and all sorts of disaster scenarios before the dust has even settled
 
the amount of people acting shocked is hilarious when the club basically handed the case to the other side on a plate and then strutted around like they had some kind of grand legal masterplan, proper embarrassing from top to bottom
 
This looks like a reasonable outcome once the admission was made. The wider consequences may still be more damaging than the appeal itself.
