Glasner’s shade at Spurs and the Eze line

Oliver Glasner has absolutely lit this one up with that line about Arsenal and then the little swipe about Eberechi Eze going to Arsenal and not another club. It feels like proper manager banter, but you can see why Spurs fans are fuming, because they are catching strays from everywhere at the minute.

The whole thing has got people laughing, especially the “not another club” bit, which is just weirdly specific and even funnier because he said it so casually. Arsenal fans will love it, Palace fans will probably just shrug and enjoy the chaos, and Spurs fans are left wondering why they are the punchline again.

It also says a lot about how relaxed Glasner comes across. He does not seem bothered about upsetting anyone, and that has made the quote even bigger than the actual title praise. Proper football media gold really.
 
Was in the pub last night and the whole table just started laughing when this came up because one of the lads is Spurs and he nearly choked on his pint when Glasner said not another club, proper deadpan stuff as well, reminded me of when a manager says something so casually and you know theyve spent all day deciding whether to say it or not, and then they just send it anyway, absolute chaos, everyone was giving him stick and then the next minute we were all talking about who is actually the most shameless manager in the league and somehow it turned into a debate about whether Palace fans should be offended or proud and by the end of it nobody agreed on anything but everyone was still laughing
 
I dont even think its that deep tbh, people are acting like he signed an official hate letter to Spurs when he probably just wanted to big up Arsenal and Eze in one go, still funny though because the wording is so pointed it is hard not to read into it
 
People keep acting like the issue is just the quote when the real problem is that Eze keeps getting dragged into every conversation like he is some sort of trophy prop and not a player who had to make a decision for himself, and then you have all these fans turning it into a Spurs joke when the man has barely been mentioned for anything else, it is honestly ridiculous, every time a player goes somewhere else people start rewriting the whole thing like they were secretly desperate to join one club and snub another, and Spurs fans get it worst because apparently every sentence has to become a dig at them, but that is not what football should be about and people should just let the lad enjoy his moment instead of making it about their weird online rivalries, Glasner should have kept it simple instead of feeding the circus and now everyone is acting like they have won the internet because of one little line
 
It is a clever bit of management, because he praises Arsenal while keeping the focus on Eze. The Spurs jab is just a bonus for the internet.
 
i cant lie i laughed way more than i should have at the not another club bit, its just the way he said it like he knew exactly what he was doing and didnt care, proper cold delivery and now everyone is pretending to be above it when really theyd all be sharing it in the group chat
 
A measured point first, this is exactly the sort of quote that gets amplified because it is both complimentary and slightly rude at the same time, so it lands with fans on both sides. But honestly that is why Glasner is becoming one of those managers people like hearing from, because he does not do the usual bland media thing and he seems willing to say what half the room is thinking. Then you end up with Spurs fans taking it personally, Arsenal fans lapping it up, and everyone else pretending they are just observing it neutrally when really they are all enjoying the needle. Football needs a bit of that, otherwise it is just endless sponsor speak and recycled talking points and nobody wants that
 
tbf glasner probably knew exactly what he was doing here and that makes it even funnier, its not like he stumbled into the line by accident, he knew spurs fans would bite and they did straight away, which is why managers should just speak like this more often instead of all the same boring media nonsense
