Ronaldo lifting the SPL trophy

People can mock the league all they want but it is still a trophy and the lads are clearly buzzing, and Ronaldo being there gives it a proper sense of occasion whether folk like it or not. The phone filming is silly but not exactly the crime of the century, and the whole thing has a weird charm to it if you are not too busy sneering from the outside, because at the end of the day these players worked for it and they are allowed to enjoy themselves even if the internet wants to turn it into a joke
 
The whole clip feels oddly self-aware, like everyone knows it is a spectacle and is leaning into that. Ronaldo still has the star power to make even a routine trophy lift feel like a headline, but the constant filming does make it seem less like a celebration and more like content.
 
If you look at it tactically the whole celebration is almost secondary to the brand around it now because the phones are out before the moment even lands and that changes the energy completely, everybody is trying to document their own angle instead of just being present and that is why it feels so strange, the football has become part of the performance and the performance has become the product
 
I get why people are laughing, but honestly he still knows how to make a moment feel huge, even when the details are bizarre. The phones and the faces make it look a bit robotic, yet that is probably the most modern football thing about it tbh
 
Been in the pub with mates watching stuff like this and you always get one bloke who insists he does not care about the Saudi league and another who cannot stop looking at it because Ronaldo is involved and that is exactly what this feels like, half the room laughing at the phones and the weird faces and the other half saying fair play he is still doing it at 41, reminds me of when we were all arguing over a nonsense cup final years ago and nobody could agree whether the celebration was elite or embarrassing, in the end someone shouted that the trophy looked like it had been polished with a car wash sponge and the whole pub lost it, this has the same energy all over again and I can already hear the arguments starting up before the clips have even finished
