Free agents this summer are actually stacked

Looking through this list and it feels like a proper throwback to when you could build half a title-winning side from free agents. There are names in here that, a few years ago, would have had clubs all over them without thinking twice.

Now it feels like a mix of ageing stars, injury questions and a few lads who still look decent enough to do a job. You can already see which clubs are being linked in the comments, and honestly some of them make a lot of sense.

Still, there are a few that stand out as genuinely useful if the fit is right. Free transfers can be brilliant business if you get the timing right, but they can also be a trap if you’re chasing the name rather than the player.

The interesting part is less the names themselves and more which clubs can still get value out of them. If you need one specific role filled, there are a few here who make sense, but you would not want to build a whole summer around this list.

A few of these could still be huge signings if the fit is right. Great business if a club gets one over the line!

FM players are rubbing their hands together right now every single one of these gets offered a contract in the first five minutes and half of them end up at some random mid table side on ridiculous wages

There is still real value here if a club is smart about it. The problem is that everyone sees a free agent list and immediately thinks bargain, when in reality you are usually paying in wages, fitness concerns, and the risk that the name is bigger than the output. A few of these lads could absolutely still do a job, especially if they are being used in the right way, but you would have to be very selective. Honestly though some clubs are probably already lining up to take a punt and then acting shocked when the player is unavailable half the time and the whole thing turns into a mess ffs

It depends on whether you want proven names or reliable bodies. Some of these players still have quality, but the availability issue is doing a lot of damage to their value tbh
