Spain go to a World Cup with no Real Madrid players

The interesting part is that this is not really about one bad season. It is about the profile of the squad and the way the club has recruited for years. If you do not have Spanish players who are clearly among the best in their positions, the national team will simply go elsewhere. That is what has happened here.
 
i actually thought there might be one or two in there and then i saw the list and just laughed because its such a weird feeling seeing madrid completely blanked from spain like that
 
I do not think this proves Madrid have no Spanish talent, just that the current cycle has not worked out for them.
 
The tactical angle is pretty simple really, Spain have gone for players who fit the manager's idea of control and flexibility and Madrid's Spanish options just do not seem to offer that same certainty right now so they miss out even if the badge is huge
 
From a squad-building point of view, this makes sense if the available Madrid players are injured, aging, or simply not first-choice quality. National teams cannot carry sentiment, especially in a tournament cycle. The headline is wild, but the selection logic is probably straightforward.
 
People are going after one player or another but honestly the whole thing is on Madrid for not making their academy matter anymore and it is always the same story with them now, they sign the shiny foreign name, they pat themselves on the back, they talk about culture and standards and then when Spain need players they have nothing to offer, and the sad part is every time a kid looks close they get shoved aside for another galactico project and everyone acts surprised when the national team squad comes out and there is nobody from the club in it, like what did you think was going to happen when you turn the whole place into a shopping centre for superstars
