Nico Paz and the Como CL call

Nico Paz apparently wants to stay at Como for another season and have a crack at the Champions League, while Real Madrid still haven’t made a final call. On the face of it, that feels like a pretty sensible move for a young player who is actually playing and has a big role where he is.

Madrid is Madrid, obviously, but there’s also the reality that not every talented attacking midfielder gets to walk into that side and immediately find a clear spot. If Como are giving him proper minutes, a key role, and Champions League football, it is hard to blame him for wanting another year there.

The bigger question is whether Madrid even need to force it. If the buy-back is there, they can always revisit it, but for now this feels like one of those rare situations where patience might suit everyone. Would you keep him at Como or bring him back now?
 
If I were him I would be fuming at the idea of leaving Como right now just to sit around at Madrid waiting for scraps because that place eats young attacking midfielders alive and then acts surprised when they do not develop the way everyone expected, he has a real role there, real trust, real rhythm, and if he goes back now he is basically signing up to be another name in a pile of talented lads nobody can fit in properly, why would you throw that away unless you are absolutely certain the path is clear and from the outside it looks anything but clear
 
He probably knows another year of minutes at Como is worth more than being a squad option at Madrid right now. If he can be part of a Champions League run and keep building confidence, that feels like the better bet imo
 
Madrid fans acting like every half decent attacking midfielder is automatically ready to be thrown into that circus and then shocked when the lad wants a normal football life instead of being one of fifteen people fighting for one role, honestly fair play to him if he stays and lets the galactico cosplay continue without him
 
I get why he would want to stay because if you are actually trusted somewhere it changes everything and you can feel the momentum building every week, whereas going back to Madrid would mean starting from zero again and fighting for every minute and that is just a horrible spot for a young creative player to be in
 
From Madrid’s point of view this is one of those situations where patience probably pays off, because if Nico Paz is genuinely that good then another season of consistent football at Como should only strengthen his value and his confidence. He is not being asked to become a fringe option or to learn on the fly in a squad full of established names, he is being asked to be important, and that matters. But at the same time I totally understand why supporters look at a player like this and think just bring him back now because the talent is obvious and you do not want to lose control of a top prospect. The problem is that control is not the same as development and Madrid have made a habit of swallowing young players whole when maybe they should just let them breathe somewhere else for a bit, and if Como are giving him Champions League football and a real platform then why on earth would you rush the process and risk turning a promising story into another one of those annoying what ifs where everyone argues for years about whether the club ruined him or not
