Nico Paz and the Como CL call

The key factor here is whether the player gets meaningful responsibility. At Como, he appears to have that, and a Champions League campaign would only add to the value of another year there. At Madrid, he would likely be fighting for minutes in a much more crowded environment, which is not ideal for a young creative player.
 
If i was a madrid fan id probably want every youngster back too but thats just because you lot never seem happy unless youre collecting names like stickers and then acting surprised when half of them need to go somewhere else to actually play football
 
People keep acting like this is some kind of insult to Madrid when really it is just common sense from the player side and I do not blame him one bit because if you are genuinely building something at Como and you have a chance to play Champions League football then that is not a small thing, that is a massive thing, that is the sort of opportunity that can define a season and maybe even a career path, and the whole point of development is not to collect badges for the sake of it but to actually become a better footballer, so if that means another year in Italy then so be it, because the alternative is getting swallowed up by a bigger club and hearing people say oh well he needs to be patient while he sits around watching everyone else play, and I am sorry but patience is just a fancy word people use when they want someone else to take the risk, let him stay, let him play, let him lead, and if Madrid want him later then they can come back when they have a proper plan instead of just hoovering up talent and hoping the rest sorts itself out
 
The measured view is that Madrid can afford to be patient because the buy-back situation gives them flexibility and Como can keep developing him in a role that suits him. But once you start thinking about it properly you end up in the usual football rabbit hole where every club behaves like a dragon sitting on a pile of young talent and every fan thinks their academy graduate should either be starting immediately or sold tomorrow, and then people wonder why lads choose the project that actually lets them touch the ball every week. If Nico Paz wants another season, fair enough, because football careers are short and momentum matters, and the irony is that the more sensible the decision looks, the louder everyone gets about loyalty and ambition and all that nonsense
