Atleti want €150m for Alvarez

Tactically, this is the sort of deal that only makes sense if the buying club sees him as the centrepiece of the attack. If Barca are still trying to spread money around the squad, then a fee like this is a terrible use of resources. Atleti know that, which is why they can push the number so high.
 
The sensible angle is that Atleti are protecting themselves and making the player expensive enough that only a truly desperate club can come in, which is fair enough, but then the whole thing turns into a weird loyalty test and everyone starts acting like the player should somehow force a move to a club that may not even be serious, and honestly the more I think about it the more this just feels like another example of the modern transfer market being completely detached from reality because one minute we're talking about squad building and the next minute it's all about whether a single name is worth the GDP of a small country and somehow fans are expected to treat that as normal and balanced and rational when it is obviously none of those things
 
This is exactly why I cant take transfer rumours seriously anymore because every club just throws out some insane number and the media acts like its a proper negotiation when really its just a giant game of chicken and the fans are left arguing over whether a player is worth more than half a squad and barca always seem to be in the middle of it somehow because they either want the player or the player wants them or both and then the comments turn into everyone pretending they know what the finances are and who can pay what and honestly it is just exhausting at this point
 
People are already laughing at Atleti like theyre being greedy or delusional but if your club has a top player under contract and you dont need to sell, why should you hand him over for a fee that makes everyone else comfortable, thats nonsense, the losing side in this story is the one who cant afford him or wont commit, not the club standing their ground, and i swear fans only call it unrealistic when their own club cant pay up, if Barca want him then pay what it takes or move on, simple as that, no one owes them a discount just because the player likes the badge
 
Atleti are absolutely entitled to ask for whatever they want, and if the player only wants Barcelona then that is his problem as much as anyone else's. But this is where the whole saga starts to get silly because people act like desire alone can bend the market, and it really cant, not when the number is that high and the buying club has other priorities, so now we get weeks of noise, fan fiction, and fake confidence from every side and then somehow everyone will be shocked when nothing happens, which would be the most predictable ending possible and still somehow annoying as hell
 
Was in the pub earlier and the same argument came up with three lads who dont even support the same club, one said Barca should just pay it, another said Atleti are taking the piss, and the third was convinced it means absolutely nothing and the player will stay where he is, and by the end of it we were all shouting over a packet of crisps like it was a cup final, the landlord just looked at us dead on and said football fans are the same everywhere and honestly he might have been right because this whole thing feels like that kind of conversation that never gets resolved and just gets louder until someone changes the subject to who has the better training kit
