Haaland Madrid claim shut down in hours

Can only imagine how smug he must have felt before this came out and now its just embarrassment all round, proper self inflicted mess

There was never enough evidence for this to be treated as anything more than a rumour, and the public denial makes that clear. Madrid remain Madrid, they will always be linked with the biggest names, but this one was always floating on air and now it has burst and everyone looks silly for pretending otherwise, honestly what a shambles, you do not get to just invent certainty because it sounds good in a campaign and then act shocked when the player camp says no and the whole thing falls apart

This is why I cant take election season in football seriously anymore because every time someone wants votes they start throwing out the biggest names imaginable and the fans just lap it up for a week and then reality hits and the whole thing collapses, Haaland is at City and has every reason to stay put for now, the idea that he was secretly agreed to join Madrid just because a candidate needed a headline is honestly one of the most ridiculous things ive seen in ages and now everyone involved looks like theyve been mugged off by their own hype

It was always going to need a denial or a confirmation to mean anything. The denial has arrived, so the story is basically dead.

On paper this was always a dangerous thing to use as a campaign point because if it fell apart you would look reckless, and that is exactly what has happened. Madrid’s pull is real, but you still need something concrete before you start acting like a deal exists and now it has turned into a complete mess and honestly the whole thing is a joke and everyone who bought into it deserves to feel a bit daft because it was never that simple

Nah I dont buy the whole he was dumb thing because these stories usually get some sort of oxygen from somewhere and people only act shocked when the denial comes out, it was never just one bloke making it up out of thin air

If you look at it purely from a football angle this made no sense anyway because Madrid already have issues fitting elite attackers into the same side and a move like this would only make the squad building even harder, so the whole thing felt like election noise from the start and now the denial just confirms it was all smoke

I think people are overstating how damaging this is. It is embarrassing, yes, but election stories have a short memory.

People keep acting like Madrid have some divine right to every superstar and maybe that is why this whole thing got so much traction in the first place, but there is still a real football club on the other side of it and Haaland is not some cardboard cutout for an election campaign, he is a proper player with his own situation and if he is happy where he is then that should be the end of it, not this constant nonsense where every rumour gets turned into a coronation and then everybody laughs when it collapses, I actually feel a bit for the fans who have to sit through this because it drags the club into something they did not even start

This was always more about politics than football. The denial just exposed how thin the story was.

honestly it was obvious from the start that this was just election theatre and not a real transfer story, the timing never made sense and now everyones acting surprised like they didnt see it coming

The sensible takeaway is that a public denial from the player’s camp should end the discussion, because there is no point pretending a rumour is solid once the people closest to him have said otherwise. But football discourse never stops there, does it, it just keeps spinning into memes and accusations and then suddenly everyone is an expert on elections, secret meetings, and who said what to whom, which is exactly how this kind of nonsense grows legs and turns into a weeklong circus
