Norway's squad rowing through Oslo

Norway really have leaned all the way into the celebration here and fair play to them, it looks absolutely massive in front of The Royal Palace in Oslo. You can tell the whole thing has caught people up, even the more cynical lot, because the vibe is just infectious

There are a few funny little details in there as well with the Royal Family involved, the drums, and the squad being properly put through it all before some of them had to dash off. It feels like one of those scenes that would look ridiculous in almost any other context but somehow just works

Still, I can see why some people are loving it and others are rolling their eyes. It is very Norwegian, very over the top, and very easy to imagine becoming a bit of a proper tradition if they keep this level of energy up

Honestly this is exactly the sort of thing that makes international football worth watching because you get all the nonsense and pageantry and weird little traditions that would make no sense anywhere else but here it looks class and you can tell the players are actually enjoying themselves for once instead of looking like theyve been dragged there against their will and the crowd is absolutely massive too so fair play to them for turning it into a proper event

Reminds me of the time our local club did a silly little parade after a cup run and half the town came out with flags and drums and one bloke from the pub insisted on leading everyone in a chant that nobody knew and it was absolute chaos but in the best way, this has that same kind of energy where you just end up smiling even if youre pretending not to because it feels daft and brilliant at the same time and thats football at its best really

the whole thing looks mad tbh, big crowd in front of the palace and all the players just going along with it like they know this is one of those moments where you either lean in or look like a miserable sod, fair play to norway for making it feel proper special

It is hard not to enjoy a scene like this when the whole country seems fully bought in and the players are actually part of the moment instead of just standing around awkwardly, the royal family angle makes it even more absurd in a good way tbh

On one level this is just a national celebration and that is fine, but on another level it is also a reminder of how much football can spill out into something bigger than the pitch when a country really gets behind a team. The crowd, the palace, the drums, the whole staged chaos of it all makes it feel almost ceremonial, which is funny because at any other time people would be calling it cringe without hesitation, yet here it seems to land because the players are clearly in on the joke and the public are too, and then you have the little detail of some of the bigger names having to leave early for flights which somehow makes it even more real and even more ridiculous at the same time

If anything this is the kind of thing that shows how much momentum matters on a national side because when the atmosphere is this positive the players probably buy into everything a bit more and the whole setup feels less like a media event and more like a proper team identity building exercise, even if the rowing bit is a bit daft

That is the sort of thing you only get when the whole country is behind a team and everybody is willing to play along for the day. The players look like they know exactly what this means, the crowd looks enormous, and even the royal family part somehow adds to it rather than making it feel forced. I honestly love stuff like this because football can be so miserable and cynical so often, and then you get a scene like this where everyone is just smiling and making a bit of a show of it, and you remember why people get properly hooked on the whole thing in the first place

There is a genuine charm to it, especially because it feels so collective and public rather than staged for a quick clip. Some people will always call this sort of thing cringe, but if the players and fans are into it then it becomes part of the identity of the team and that is hard to knock.
