There is a real point here about how managers invite ridicule when they lean into symbolic stuff and then lose. Once you put numerology into the conversation, every result gets framed as fate, and that is on you as much as anything else. Still, the way people have latched onto it is hilarious and a bit pathetic because it turns a football discussion into a witch hunt, and honestly Martinez is going to get memed into the ground for this whether it is fair or not, absolute shambles, absolute clown show, I cannot believe people are still defending this
 
i mean fair play to yamal for just saying it straight but this whole numerology thing is peak football nonsense and people are gonna run with it for weeks now, martinez has basically handed the internet a free hit and you can already see the memes forming before the dust has even settled

I do not even think this is really about one quote or one number, it is more about people wanting to reduce a whole defeat to something simple because that is easier than admitting the football was messy and the team did not do enough. Portugal have every right to feel aggrieved and frustrated, and Martinez is going to take the blame because that is how it works, but the constant mockery of the losing side is boring as hell sometimes because it turns every defeat into a meme instead of a serious discussion about what went wrong and how to fix it, and honestly people should calm down a bit because this is still football not some grand cosmic trial
 
Yamal saying it like that is exactly why the clip has gone everywhere, because it sounds daft and funny at the same time. Martinez probably should not have given people that angle, but the reaction is a bit over the top imo
