Jorge Jesus saying Ronaldo is still part of Portugal’s plans has kicked off the same old debate again. For some, it’s just obvious: he’s a symbol, he’s still useful, and you’d keep him around in some role.

For others, it feels like Portugal are stuck in the same loop and never really moving on. The big question now is whether he’s being kept as a proper starter, a bench option, or just because nobody wants the headline that comes with dropping him.

Either way, it sounds like this conversation is not going away any time soon and Portugal fans are probably bracing themselves for another round of Ronaldo discourse.
 
I get why people are rolling their eyes, but from Portugal's point of view this is hardly some shocking revelation. He is still a symbol of Portuguese football and if the coach says he is easy to work with then of course he is going to stay in the conversation. The real issue is not whether he is in the plans, it is what those plans actually are, because being in the squad and being the guy you build everything around are two very different things. If he is used carefully then fair enough, but if this turns into the same old automatic starting spot regardless of form then people are going to lose their minds again and honestly who can blame them when the whole thing has been dragging on for years and every tournament turns into the same argument all over again and you can already see the meltdown coming from miles away
 
everyone acting like this is some massive announcement when its basically just the new coach saying he can work with ronaldo and wont make a scene about it, the real question is whether he actually drops him when it matters or just gives him the usual treatment because the noise around him is too much
 
Portugal fans waking up and seeing the same headline for the hundredth time must be absolutely sick of it by now, like mate can we just have one tournament where the conversation is about anyone else for five minutes
 
I am tired of people pretending Ronaldo is some untouchable genius who has to be in every plan no matter what because at this point the obsession is doing more damage than the actual football, he does not run the game anymore, he does not carry the team anymore, and yet every time Portugal go into a tournament it becomes all about him instead of the players who actually need minutes and trust, Ramos should be the focus and instead people keep forcing this whole thing into the same old Ronaldo circus, it is embarrassing and it holds the whole squad back and the worst part is his fans act like anyone pointing this out is insulting Portugal when really they are the ones clinging on to the past and refusing to let the team move on properly
 
Portugal are just never going to escape this are they because every single time there is even a hint of a new cycle it still comes back to Ronaldo and whether he is starting or not and if he is happy or not and if the coach can handle him and honestly it is exhausting as hell because the football should be the story but instead it is always the same celebrity soap opera nonsense and people act like this is some brave footballing decision when really it just feels like fear of upsetting the biggest name in the room and that is exactly why fans keep getting annoyed because the team never fully feels like it belongs to the coach or the squad it always feels like it belongs to one bloke and that is a massive problem
