Arbeloa on Fulham: timing, King and signs of progress

Fulham sound like they had enough good spells to make this encouraging rather than alarming. The issue is obvious though: if you concede at the start of a half or just before the break, you hand the other side control of the game. That is the sort of detail that has to improve quickly.

The encouraging part is that he is still backing King and talking about his intelligence and work rate, which suggests there is something to work with, but this is also where fans can get carried away and start projecting a whole season off one decent showing and one optimistic quote and then when the next game goes badly everyone forgets the nuance and starts screaming bottlejob again and again and again because football discourse is completely unbearable sometimes
 
There is a clear logic to what he is saying: the team were punished at key transition points, and that often matters more than overall possession or territory. If Fulham can reduce those lapses, the underlying performance sounds like it could translate into points.
 
It sounds like a mixed performance rather than a disaster. The timing of the goals clearly hurt them, but the fact he is talking about King in such positive terms suggests he sees a foundation to build on. That is probably the right tone at this stage.
 
The key issue seems to be concentration at decisive moments rather than a lack of ideas. If that improves, the rest of the performance becomes much more meaningful.
