Buzau’s home woes are likely to continue when they face FC Unirea 2004 Slobozia in a critical mid-table clash between two sides desperate to keep their Liga I Playout 2025 status. Ilie Stan, who took over as head coach of Buzau in March 2025, is still searching for answers after his new tactics failed to yield any positive results in three home matches this season. Buzau have lost all three of their Liga I Playout home matches, scoring zero and conceding five goals in total. Stan’s side will look to control the tempo and build up patiently from the back in a 4-2-3-1 formation that aims to overload the wings, but recent results suggest they are lacking the cutting edge to finish off their opponents. FC Unirea 2004 Slobozia are the slight favourites with the bookies for this match, and that looks about right given Buzau’s woeful home form and FC Unirea 2004 Slobozia’s superior points tally and form of late. Adrian Mihalcea has been at the helm of FC Unirea 2004 Slobozia since June 2023 and has instilled a more organised and direct game plan in his players that has seen them grind out points in recent weeks.
Slobozia have played out back-to-back 1-1 draws against CSM Politehnica Iasi and Botosani and have lost just one of their last five games (W1, D3, L1). They play a more direct style than Buzau, playing vertically out of a compact 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 system and looking to stay disciplined defensively before hitting their opponents on the counter or from set pieces. The regional rivalry adds a bit of spice to this fixture and both managers will be under pressure to deliver the points that could be crucial to their respective Liga I mid-table ambitions and playoff hopes. Slobozia have not won in their last three trips to Buzau’s ground, but they are likely to edge this one. The head-to-head record is level at one win apiece in the last two meetings, but Buzau claimed a strong 3-0 home win when they last met in Liga 1 2024/2025 three months ago. With Slobozia’s more direct approach likely to test Buzau’s shaky defense and Buzau's side looking to slow the pace and find space on the wings, the contrast in styles could make for a fascinating encounter.
A goalfest is unlikely to ensue in this fixture, however, as neither side has been prolific in front of goal in recent weeks. Kevin Luckassen leads the line for Buzau with four goals in six Liga I Playout 2025 appearances, scoring both of Buzau’s goals during their recent five-game slide. Bachana Arabuli is the danger man for Slobozia with two goals in five Playout appearances, accounting for almost half of his side’s goals. Arabuli has a knack of finding space in the box and his team’s ability to grind out results has been based around his ability to unlock stubborn defences, as was the case in Slobozia’s 1-1 draws against CSM Politehnica Iasi and Botosani. Given Buzau’s dismal home form and Slobozia’s greater points tally and recent stability, the visitors are fancied to nick this one in what should be a tight and tense affair. With both teams struggling for goals, the ‘Under 2.5 goals’ market looks attractive.
