- Girona FC have won 0, drawn 1 and lost 4 of their last 5 La Liga matches.
- Real Mallorca have won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 5 La Liga matches.
- Mallorca have won 3 and lost 2 of the last 5 La Liga meetings between the clubs (no draws).
Real Mallorca will try to make life difficult for Girona FC when the two clubs meet on Monday in a late-season La Liga clash between two teams in need of the points for different reasons. Girona FC are 16th in La Liga 2024-2025 with 35 points from 33 games. Mallorca are ninth in the table with 44 points from 33 games. The two clubs have very different playing styles that should make for an interesting tactical chess match on Monday. Girona are a possession-based side that like to play expansively and at a high tempo, pressing opponents high up the pitch. Mallorca, on the other hand, are a much more compact and reactive team that like to sit deep and absorb pressure before trying to hit on the break. Jagoba Arrasate has done a great job since taking over in July 2024, creating a well-organised and disciplined unit that can be very tough to break down.
Mallorca’s defence is much tighter on the road than at home, having conceded 20 goals in 16 La Liga away games. Defender Antonio Raíllo, who makes crucial clearances in big games, is the rock at the heart of their back line. Girona have been conceding too many goals at home, shipping 25 in 16 La Liga games at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, an average of 1.56 per game. Defender David López offers leadership at the back, and Michel’s men have lost both of their last two home league games. Michel has been in charge of Girona FC since July 2021 and his teams have always played a similar style – proactive, possession-based and attacking. Veteran forward Cristhian Stuani, who has scored eight goals in 27 La Liga games, is their main goal threat and has scored half of their goals in the last five. Mallorca have a physical forward in Vedat Muriqi, who has seven goals in 24 La Liga games to play off and he can be a handful when the visitors get on the break.
Attacking midfielder Dani Rodríguez is the most creative player in their side and his ability to play the right pass in tight spots can release the counterattacking runs of Muriqi and his fellow forwards. Mallorca’s away form has been patchy, with six wins, two draws and eight losses in La Liga 2024-2025, but they will come to Girona looking to break their record of not winning on their last two visits to Girona. They lost 1-0 at Barcelona and then drew 0-0 at home to Leganes in their last two fixtures, so it is hard to know which Mallorca will turn up on Monday. Given Girona’s home troubles and the fact that Mallorca have not won on their last two league visits to the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, the draw at 3.10 looks a solid play. Girona are favourites at 2.25 to take all three points, but Mallorca are a 3.50 underdog and could keep this close enough for a point.
