Barça and Gordon? What is going on

So apparently Barça are making progress on Anthony Gordon, with Deco said to have spoken to him in London and nudged his preference towards Barça over Bayern and Liverpool. That is a proper left-field one if it has any legs at all.

It feels like one of those rumours that makes you stop and reread it twice. Gordon is being talked about as a serious target, and at the same time people are wondering why Barça would be here for him but not just go straight for Rashford.

Could be genuine, could be agent games, could be a way to pressure Newcastle. Either way it has got people talking, because this is not the name many expected to be linked with Barça at this stage.
 
Anthony Gordon has been getting talked up like hes some world class winger for ages now and i just do not see it honestly, every time i watch him he looks like a lad who runs a lot and makes a fuss and thats about it, all that hype from the agent circus is doing my head in because now suddenly he is being sold as a Barcelona level player and i am supposed to believe that over what my own eyes show me, no chance, he is a tidy player sure but this whole thing feels like inflated nonsense from start to finish
 
It looks more like a leverage move than a finished deal. Barça may just be testing Newcastle's price.
 
barca fans spent all season saying work rate matters and now suddenly gordon is the second coming because he runs around a bit, football twitter is a circus man, if this is real then fair enough but it feels like someone trying to make newcastle sweat and get the fee down while everyone pretends its a masterplan
 
deco in london chatting away while the rest of us are trying to work out if this is a transfer or a hostage negotiation, barca really do live in a different universe sometimes, next thing you know theyll be linked with my nan because she pressed well in the kitchen
 
This is exactly the sort of rumour that gets people gassed for no reason, one minute its all quiet and then suddenly gordon is prioritising barca over bayern and liverpool like thats some normal thing, come on now, sounds like someone is feeding the press and everyone is biting straight away
 
Was in the pub last night and some bloke at the bar was absolutely convinced this was already done because he had seen a tweet about Barca and Gordon, proper dead serious as well, kept saying Deco knows what hes doing and that the club must have money hidden somewhere, we were all just staring at him because it sounded like complete nonsense but he would not let it go and by the end of the night he was drawing up front threes on a napkin like he was on the board at the club
 
At first glance I can understand why Barça would like him because he does seem to bring energy and he clearly has a profile that fits pressing teams. But the more you think about it, the more bizarre it becomes, because the price being discussed is huge and the whole thing sits awkwardly next to the Rashford chatter, and now it all feels like a very messy recruitment plan that is getting more emotional by the minute, if this drags on much longer everyone involved is going to look daft
 
There is a sensible argument for him if the club want intensity and direct running from wide areas. The issue is whether the fee and wages line up with what Barça actually need right now, because that is where the whole thing starts to look questionable.
