Barça and Gordon? What is going on

The most interesting part for me is that this feels less about Gordon as a superstar and more about what Barça think they need in the squad. If they genuinely value his pressing and work rate then fine, that is at least coherent, but the whole thing also smells like a negotiation tactic and maybe even a bit of theatre for Newcastle. Then again football clubs do love turning one rumour into a full soap opera, and somehow this has become about Rashford, Bayern, Liverpool, Newcastle and even the state of Barcelona's finances all at once
 
I am going to defend Newcastle on this one because people are acting like Gordon is some random mid table merchant when he has clearly earned a lot of respect for what he brings, the work rate is real, the attitude is real and the fact that bigger clubs are sniffing around says more than the online takes do, if Barça or Bayern want him then that tells you he has something, and it is not crazy for Newcastle to want proper money if they are letting him go
 
I dont buy the idea that this proves he is top level because clubs get linked with loads of names all the time and half of it is nonsense, Gordon is decent but this feels more like a market move than a genuine statement of belief from Barça
 
honestly this has me sat here thinking about how football never makes sense anymore because one minute you are reading about a player being linked with one club and the next minute he is supposedly choosing between three giants and none of it feels real, i cant even tell if i am annoyed or entertained but barca always manage to drag everyone into the drama
 
Barca fans are already trying to explain why this makes perfect sense and i get it, he presses, he runs, he suits certain systems. But the fee talk makes it look ridiculous on the face of it, especially when the Rashford comparison is right there, imo
 
If the report is accurate, this is more about squad fit than star power. Gordon offers work rate and intensity, which some coaches clearly value highly. The real question is whether Barça can justify a big fee for that profile when they have other needs.
 
You can see the logic if they want a winger who will press and stretch the pitch, but the whole thing feels like Barça are chasing profile over price again and that is where it gets messy because Newcastle are not going to roll over and let a player like that go for peanuts
