Álvarez booed at the Metropolitano

Nah I dont buy the idea that this is just the fans being irrational, if a player is openly pushing for a move and the club are stuck in the middle then the crowd is always going to react badly, thats not some crazy overreaction thats just football reality and people pretending otherwise are kidding themselves
 
The reaction makes sense in context, even if it is uncomfortable to watch. Once the relationship between player and supporters turns sour, the atmosphere can change very quickly and it becomes difficult to reverse.
 
It is a bad look all round because once a player is getting booed before the game has even settled, you know the bridge is already burned and the club are in a mess of their own making, but at the same time you can understand why the fans feel like this because nobody wants to watch a half-hearted situation drag on forever and then be told to just cheer along like nothing happened, it is all turning into a circus and the longer it goes on the more everyone is going to get wound up and start talking rubbish and honestly the whole thing is just exhausting now
 
People are acting like the player is the only one at fault here but the club have had plenty of time to handle this better and now they are letting the crowd do the talking while everyone else pretends it is some simple loyalty issue, it is not that simple at all because once a player wants out and the board still think they can sit on it forever then this is exactly what happens and the supporters end up carrying the whole mood, and honestly if you are an Atleti fan you can still back the club without turning the guy into the villain of the century because football is never black and white and this whole thing feels way too convenient for people who just want a scapegoat
 
Both sides have a point here. The fans are reacting to what they see as disrespect, but the club also need to think about whether this situation is sustainable if it keeps boiling over in public.
 
Had something similar happen at the pub when a lad kept saying he was leaving our five a side team for a better one and then showed up like nothing was wrong, everyone gave him grief for weeks and it got so awkward that even ordering a pint felt like a negotiation, football crowds are the same really once the trust goes it never comes back easy and you just end up watching the same joke play out over and over again until somebody finally caves in and moves on
 
Honestly this is why football turns into such a mess because the minute a player is linked with leaving everybody picks a side and then it becomes this endless loop of boos, rumours, boardroom nonsense and fans acting like they are the only ones with principles, like the whole stadium knows exactly what is going on and still decides to make it worse every single week and then people are shocked when the atmosphere becomes toxic and the player looks miserable and the manager has to answer the same question again and again
 
I know everyone wants to talk about the fans but the real issue is that Alvarez has put himself right in the middle of this mess and now it is all coming back on him, if you are going to make noise about leaving then you cannot be surprised when the ground turns against you, that is just how it works, and for all the talent in the world it still looks awful when a player is basically letting the whole thing drag on and on and making the club look like mugs, it is selfish, it is unnecessary and it is doing nobody any favours at all
