Arbeloa saying they conceded at the worst possible times feels pretty fair. That sort of thing can kill a game before it really settles, and he at least sounds like he knows where the problems were.

The King mention is interesting too. He’s clearly backing him and talking up the talent, but also making it clear there’s still a finishing job to do. That balance of praise and pressure is probably what you want from a manager.

On the wider Fulham point, there seem to be a few signs there’s something decent building. Not perfect by any means, but enough in the performance for people to be talking about a top-half push rather than just survival.

was in the pub earlier and a lad at the bar was going on like this about a game from years ago saying timing is everything and you cant switch off for even a second because one goal before the break changes the whole mood and honestly he wasnt wrong, football really does have that horrible habit of making decent sides look a mess when the goals come at the worst time, and if arbeloa is saying it now then he probably knows the lads need to stop gifting momentum away because once it goes it is a pain in the arse to get back, seen it happen loads of times and it always feels like the same story

I actually think people are being too harsh on Fulham here because there is a proper side in that squad if you look past the frustration of the result and the timing of those goals, they sounded like they were on top in spells and that matters a lot more than the online doom posting suggests, you can tell Arbeloa is seeing the shape of it and not just the bad bits, and that is what a good manager does, he keeps the standards up without humiliating the players, keeps King believing, keeps the group together and you can build from that, people want instant perfection these days and then act shocked when a team needs time to settle, it is absolute nonsense

ngl i came away from that feeling better about them than i expected because even when things went wrong it still looked like there was a plan and some energy there and that is more than a lot of teams can say after a rough one, if King starts putting chances away people will change their tune fast
