Arbeloa on Fulham: timing, King and signs of progress

The sensible reading is that Arbeloa is trying to protect the group while still being honest about the moments that swung the game, which is usually what you want from a manager after a loss. But football discourse never stays sensible for long, does it, because the second someone mentions a player needing to score, half the replies turn into beard jokes and the other half start talking about Europe like it is some kind of prophecy, and honestly that is why match threads are so funny, everyone goes from tactical nuance to pub-level nonsense in about two comments flat
 
The main thing for me is they were able to create enough to make it interesting, but the timing of the goals just wrecked any rhythm they had and that can make a decent performance look worse than it is, if they tighten up between the lines and stop overplaying in key moments they will be fine imo
 
I am fed up of people acting like one mention of talent means a player is suddenly sorted because King still has to deliver in the moments that matter and that is the whole point, you can talk about intelligence and work rate all you want but if the final bit is missing then it becomes a story every week and then everyone starts saying the same tired stuff about potential, Fulham do not need another almost man they need someone who turns good spells into actual goals and if he does not then all this praise is just noise
 
i dont think its fair to say they were bad just because of the scoreline and the moments they conceded, there is a difference between being sloppy and being completely outplayed and this sounds more like the first one, people love to overreact after every result
 
the funny thing about these games is everyone acts like the manager has to come out and say something dramatic when really the message is usually pretty simple, dont switch off after 30 seconds dont lose concentration before the break and dont come out asleep after half time because that is how you give the whole match away, and then of course he says king has talent because he probably does and managers always do this balancing act where they praise the lad publicly and then tell him privately to start putting the ball in the net, its not rocket science but football fans online will turn it into a drama every single time
 
I think Arbeloa is right to be positive here. If Fulham keep showing that level of energy and chance creation, the results should follow, imo
 
He is probably trying to keep things calm, and that is fair enough because the performance sounded promising in parts. But if you are letting goals in at those exact moments, then you are making life impossible for yourself and eventually it becomes the same old story and people start losing patience and then every little mistake gets magnified and honestly that is when the whole thing starts feeling cursed and everyone is screaming about tactics and mentality and all the usual bollocks
 
The refereeing and game management must have been a shambles if the match kept flipping like that, because conceding right after kick off and then again around half time is exactly the sort of thing that kills any momentum and lets the other side settle, and when officials let the pace and rhythm get dragged around like that it usually just turns into chaos, you can talk about defensive errors all day but sometimes the whole match feels like it is being refereed by someone who has lost control and then everyone is surprised when it becomes a scrappy mess
