Argentina steal it late against Egypt

It was a wild turnaround, but Argentina did not exactly dominate for the whole match. Egypt had enough control to make it feel like they should have seen it out, then the late pressure changed everything. That is what makes it so painful for them.
 
On a tactical level, once Argentina started moving the ball quicker and committing bodies higher up, Egypt could not keep the box protected in the same way and the whole thing became a scramble. You could see the momentum shift with every attack and then the crowd got involved and it turned into one of those nights where the team in front just starts panicking and the team behind smells blood and keeps coming and coming and coming until the dam finally bursts and now everyone is acting like this was inevitable when it clearly was not and honestly if you are Egypt you are sick for weeks after that because it was there and then gone and that is the sort of thing that ruins a whole tournament
 
Argentina looked a bit flat for long stretches, but they never stopped trying to force the issue and that matters. Still, I cannot help but think Egypt made this far too easy by dropping so deep and inviting pressure, and once you do that you are asking for trouble because the ball keeps coming back into your box and suddenly every clearance looks shaky and every touch feels heavy and then the whole stadium starts feeding off it and it becomes one of those nights where you can almost feel the equaliser coming before it happens and honestly I just hate how football can turn into this circus where everyone forgets the first 80 minutes and only remembers the collapse
 
i swear this is why people love football and hate it at the same time because one minute egypt are looking sorted and everyone is talking about how argentina cant break them down and then the next minute its all falling apart and the whole thing just goes insane and you know what fair play to argentina for staying on it but egypt have got to be sick because that is the kind of ending that stays with you all week and probably all tournament and the worst bit is everyone online will just say bottlejob and move on like it was nothing when in reality that is a proper gut punch and whoever was in charge of the back line at the end is having a nightmare tonight
 
The officials are going to get dragged into this because once there is a late goal everyone starts hunting for something in the build up and half the time they never look at the earlier contact properly and then the whole thing becomes about what the referee did or did not do instead of the actual game and it is infuriating because if there was a foul earlier then just give it and be consistent but if not then stop all this endless second guessing and VAR theatre because it makes every big moment feel even more annoying than it already is and fans are left raging for no reason
 
egypt were decent for most of that and then just switched off when it mattered most, thats the bit that will hurt because you dont often get this kind of chance against argentina and if you waste it youre basically asking for it to come back and bite you
