Atlético reportedly want at least €150m for Julián Alvarez, and that price tag is already doing the rounds for all the obvious reasons. The player apparently has no interest in going back to the Premier League or moving to PSG, and only wants Barcelona.

That leaves Atleti in a pretty strong position if they really mean it. But it also feels like one of those transfer stories where the numbers are so wild that everyone involved is just posturing for weeks while the player stays put.

Either Barca somehow pull off something huge, or this just becomes another reminder that elite players can want one destination all they like and still end up nowhere near it.
 
From Atleti's point of view this is exactly how you should handle it. He's contracted, he's valuable, and if you let everyone know you're desperate then the price drops the second a bigger club starts circling. But from the player's side it looks like another classic case of a move making sense on paper and then suddenly the dream club is nowhere near the actual budget. If he has his heart set on Barca, fair enough, but that doesn't magically make €150m less ridiculous. Clubs are acting like the market is normal when it's clearly not. Every summer it's the same nonsense, one player gets a number slapped on him and suddenly everyone is pretending it's realistic because of
 
people acting like barca are just gonna stroll in and drop 150 for a striker while sorting the rest of the squad as well is hilarious mate they cant even sneeze without a payment plan and now somehow Alvarez is the guy theyre meant to build around while also buying defenders and whatever else, absolute comedy
 
nah i dont buy the whole he shouldve gone somewhere bigger first thing because atleti are still a massive club and plenty of players would kill for that move, it just turned into a dead end because of the fee and the Barca obsession, doesnt mean he made some fatal mistake
 
A €150m valuation makes sense only if Atleti are trying to shut the door, not if they expect a bidding war. The interesting part is that the player seems to have narrowed it down to one destination, which weakens his leverage a lot. That usually ends with the club holding the cards.
 
It feels like one of those sagas where everyone is pretending there is a market when there probably isn't. Alvarez is clearly a top player, but if Barca are also trying to manage other areas of the squad, this number is hard to justify. Atleti can wait and see who blinks first.
 
i just find it funny how every time barca get mentioned in one of these stories people act like its destiny and not just a club with a massive bill to pay, the whole thing is peak transfer season nonsense and im here for the chaos
 
If Barca were serious they would be looking at whether this fee lets them do more than one thing in the market because thats the real issue here, one huge signing can wreck your whole summer if the rest of the squad still needs work and that is before you even get into whether Alvarez is the right fit for the role
