Carlos Baleba’s farewell message to Brighton has gone down really well and, fair play, it does feel properly heartfelt. The bit about wearing Caicedo’s shirt until he intercepted a pass from him and scored was the sort of detail that makes it feel like it came straight from him rather than some copy-paste goodbye.

You can see why Brighton fans are feeling it, and even a lot of neutrals are giving him credit for how genuine it came across. Not every departing player manages to leave like this, and it has definitely got people talking about both his character and what kind of player he could become next.

Honestly the whole thing just hit different because it did not feel like one of them copy and paste football goodbye posts where they thank the fans and the staff and the city and whatever else and you can tell some media team has polished it to death this actually felt like a real person speaking about a real club and a real journey and that bit about the Caicedo shirt was so specific it just made the whole thing land even harder like he actually remembered a moment that meant something to him and Brighton have every right to feel proud because whatever happens next he has left them in a proper classy way and that is not always the case with players moving on these days

It is a very good message because it feels specific rather than generic, and specific details usually mean the player actually cared about what he was writing. That said, the reaction online has turned into a bit of a competition over who can be the most emotional about it, which is very football internet and very annoying, because now every farewell has to be the greatest thing ever or else it is somehow disrespectful, and I just think sometimes a good clean goodbye is enough without everyone acting like they have watched a tragic film
 
The best part is how the message gives Brighton credit without sounding forced. It feels personal, which is why it has landed so well with fans and neutrals alike. A lot of farewell posts are forgettable, but this one clearly is not.
