Baleba’s Brighton farewell has people emotional

not even a brighton fan and this one got me a bit because it just felt sincere and you can tell he really meant the thanks and the memories and that always hits harder than the generic stuff, proper lovely

The message works because it is specific, and specificity usually signals sincerity. The Caicedo detail in particular gives it a real sense of memory rather than marketing, which is why people are responding to it so strongly.

I was in the pub with a mate when this came up and even the lads who do not really watch much football were saying it felt different because it was not just one of those empty goodbye clips that you scroll past, it had a bit of heart to it and the Caicedo detail got everyone chatting because it sounded like a proper football memory rather than some polished script, and then you end up talking about all the players who have left your club over the years and which ones actually seemed to care and which ones clearly didnt and before you know it the whole table is arguing about who was the last genuinely loved player to leave on good terms and someone is claiming it was ages ago and someone else is saying it was definitely not and then the landlord is getting involved and suddenly nobody is even talking about the original post anymore because football always does that to people
