Barça scrap World Cup tribute for Catalan flag celebration

The key question is whether the club believes symbolism outweighs the cost of alienating part of its own fanbase and the players themselves. From a pure communications standpoint, cancelling one tribute and replacing it with another statement almost guarantees that the football gets lost in the noise.
 
Barca really woke up and chose maximum drama again didnt they absolute shambles and now everyone is pretending to be shocked like the club hasnt been doing this forever
 
Honestly this is why people are exhausted with football discourse because every club wants to act like it is making some grand statement about identity and values and then the second there is backlash everyone starts performing outrage and trying to score points off each other instead of just saying the obvious thing which is that the players who won the World Cup should have got their moment and the club could have made whatever political statement it wanted on another day, but no, it has to be all at once, maximum division, maximum noise, and then the same people who made the mess will be on camera talking about unity and respect like they didnt just pour petrol on the whole thing
 
I dont think its as simple as saying Barca should never touch politics because the club has always been wrapped up in it, but I do think people are pretending the only valid stance is to be outraged when the reality is the club is responding to a context that clearly matters to them, whether you agree or not, and that does not automatically make everyone involved some kind of villain
 
The real issue for me is that one player in particular gets dragged into this kind of nonsense all the time and now the whole thing is being turned into another referendum on the club instead of a moment to recognise what he and the others achieved, and it is always the same with certain players at Barca where people forget they are footballers first and political props second, and if you keep asking them to carry all this extra baggage then dont be surprised when the atmosphere gets toxic and the whole thing becomes a circus that nobody can enjoy because the club keeps choosing drama over common sense
 
Barca fans acting like this is some noble masterplan when it is just another self inflicted headache and the rest of us have to sit through the fallout like usual
