That save from Alireza Beiranvand against Belgium is ridiculous. The first angle looked good enough, but the alternate views make it even more mad, proper world class stuff.

Credit to the whole Iran defence too, because there was a lot going on in there and somehow they all managed to scramble it clear without making it worse. Belgium will be kicking themselves after that chance, but you have to give the keeper massive credit.

Feels like goalkeepers have been stealing the show in this tournament so far. Moments like that are exactly why replays and alternate angles matter, because the live view never really does it justice.

That is exactly why people overrate the finish sometimes because the keeper still has work to do and here Beiranvand reads it early, sets his feet and explodes across, while the defender doing the little twist away from handball is just as important because if he blocks it wrong the whole move changes, proper team defending from Iran there

I was in the pub watching this and the whole place just went silent for a second because nobody could quite work out how he kept it out, then the replay came on and everyone started shouting over each other like it was the goal of the century or something, proper mad moment, reminds me of when you see a keeper pull off one save and suddenly he is a cult hero for the rest of the night, lads were acting like they knew him personally and one bloke even stood up and said that is why Iran are hard to beat, absolute scenes honestly

The first angle was already impressive, but the other views make it feel even more dramatic and I think that is what people will remember about it. Belgium should probably have done better with the chance, but Beiranvand still has to get across that quickly and keep his body strong, which is not easy at all. It is one of those moments that makes you sit back and respect good goalkeeping, because he has timed everything perfectly and the whole thing just feels massive, and now I am just sitting here thinking how on earth did that stay out because it is driving me mad

The shot is not perfect, but the save still requires elite reactions and positioning. Beiranvand gets down quickly and the defender's awareness matters too, because the whole sequence is a mess if he turns the wrong way. Belgium will feel they should have done better, but it is still an outstanding stop.

From a defensive point of view, the key thing is how quickly the keeper resets after the initial contact and how the defender protects the space without giving away a handball. That is what separates a routine block from a memorable save, and this one has both reflexes and awareness. Belgium will obviously feel they should have finished it, but Beiranvand still has to produce the stop and he absolutely does. And honestly the more I watch it the more insane it gets, because how many times do you see a keeper just somehow get enough on it and everybody is left staring at the screen like what the hell was that

people acting like this is impossible when the shot is right there for him and the keeper just has to react, still a good save but lets not turn it into some mythical event because belgium made it easy enough for him to look heroic

keeper performances like this are why people love tournament football because one moment and suddenly everyones talking about a bloke most of them barely knew before and now hes out there looking like a wall, fair play to him
