Beiranvand's insane save vs Belgium

That save is impressive because he reads the situation instantly and reacts without hesitation. The defender also deserves credit for the awareness to avoid making contact with his arm, which makes the whole sequence even more remarkable.

De Bruyne getting all the praise for the control and fair enough but the real issue is that Belgium keep doing this thing where they make a decent chance look like a training drill for the keeper and then act shocked when it does not go in, De Cuyper has got to do better there, not even close to enough power or placement and it ends up looking like the keeper has done something supernatural when really the attacker has handed him the moment on a plate, drives me mad when people ignore that part and just scream save of the century every time a keeper moves his arms

Honestly this is exactly why I cannot take some of these highlight clips seriously because the first angle makes you think one thing and then the alternate angle shows the whole sequence in proper detail and you realise how much is going on with the defender twisting away, the keeper reading it, the shot not being great, the timing all of it, and then everyone online just picks one side and runs with it like it is the only truth, I am not saying it is not a great save because it absolutely is, but the way people talk about it you would think Belgium were denied by magic and not by a really sharp keeper doing his job

People keep saying Belgium should have scored but that is doing a massive disservice to Iran because the keeper still has to make the movement, the defender still has to stay aware and the whole line still has to hold together under pressure, and that is not easy at all at this level. It is one of those saves that can define a team for a tournament because it gives everyone belief and turns a scary moment into something they can point to later. I am not having all this nonsense about it being nothing special because it absolutely is special and the way some people are talking about the losing side like they were amateurs is just disrespectful

It is a brilliant stop, but the whole sequence matters. The finish is not perfect, the defender is alert, and Beiranvand still has to produce the reflex save under pressure. That combination is what makes it such a standout moment.

I was half expecting that to go in and then the keeper just throws himself at it and somehow keeps it out and I am sat there proper stunned because it looks impossible in real time and then even worse on replay when you can see how little time he has

goalkeepers really turned this tournament into their own little highlight reel havent they every match some lad is flying around like he has been possessed and belgium just happened to be the latest victims of the madness

I am not even a Belgium fan and I am still fuming about the officiating around that whole passage because the way these moments get judged in real time is ridiculous, one angle says one thing, another angle says something else, and somehow everyone is expected to pretend the first replay is gospel, it is a joke how much the officials are left to sort out chaos with barely any time and then the internet decides the whole thing is settled because a clip got posted, absolute nonsense from top to bottom and it ruins the flow of the game

The sensible take is that it was a great save and also a chance Belgium should have made cleaner, which is why the debate around it is so loud. But once you start looking at the reactions around the tournament you realise keepers are basically stealing the headlines every day now, and that is why people are suddenly acting like every match is a goalkeeping masterclass compilation. Fair enough to praise Beiranvand, he deserves it, but the wider pattern is what makes this feel like part of a bigger trend and not just one isolated moment of madness
