Betis have officially signed Troy Parrot and the reactions are exactly what you’d expect, half football chat and half bird puns. Still, there does seem to be a real feeling that this could be a smart move for both the club and the player

A lot of people are talking about how well he suits the shirt already and how this could be a big season for him. Others are just wondering if Betis have found a proper bargain or if there needs to be a serious sell-on clause in there somewhere

Either way it feels like a move with plenty of upside, and it will be interesting to see whether he can make the step up and settle in quickly
 
He gives you that proper run in behind option and Betis can use that if they want to play more direct, but it depends if they actually feed him early balls instead of making him chase scraps all game
 
People are acting like this is some goofy joke signing but the actual football side of it makes sense because if he is good on the shoulder of the last defender then Betis have bought a profile not just a name and that matters loads when teams need someone to stretch the line and create space for everyone else around him, it is not always about flashy link play or being a target man and if they use him properly he could be a nightmare for defenders, the only thing that worries me is when clubs get carried away with the banter and forget the player still needs service and patience and then everyone starts calling him a flop after six games which is proper nonsense
 
I think people are being far too quick to frame this as some kind of bargain or laughable little move because Betis have clearly seen something they want and that should count for a lot, not every signing has to be a superstar name to be worthwhile and not every player who moves to a bigger league is automatically finished before he kicks a ball, he can absolutely do a job there if they let him play to his strengths and actually build around him instead of expecting miracles from day one, and if it works then everyone will pretend they were always behind it anyway, football fans are the same every time, one bad touch and suddenly the lad is a fraud, one good run and he is the second coming, just let the man play and judge it properly instead of this lazy nonsense
 
Some of you are acting like he’s signed for a Sunday league side in a borrowed kit, the lad has earned a proper move and Betis have clearly got a plan so maybe calm down a bit
 
On paper this is a sensible move because he gets a platform to show what he can do and Betis get a striker who apparently suits the way he likes to play, but I do think people are underestimating how hard it is to settle in when everyone is instantly expecting green shirt memes and instant impact, the football side matters more than the pun side and if he starts well then this could look brilliant, if he starts slow then the same crowd making jokes now will be calling it a disaster and that is what annoys me about football discourse these days because nobody waits for anything and everyone wants a verdict before the lad has even unpacked his boots, absolutely mad really
 
Reminds me of when we signed a lad at my local and everyone spent two weeks making the same gag about his surname instead of talking about whether he could actually run the channels, in the end he turned out decent enough and half the pub acted like they had scouted him all along so I’m just saying give the bloke a chance and maybe Betis fans will have a proper player on their hands rather than just a punchline because honestly the internet loves to rinse things before they’ve even started and it does my head in
