Brentford 3-0 Spurs: proper battering

Brentford looked more coherent from the first whistle, while Spurs never really found a foothold. The result feels severe, but the performance gap was clear.

Spurs got stretched all over the place and never managed to settle into any shape, which is why Brentford kept finding space and making it look easy, if your midfield cant connect with your front line then you are basically asking for this sort of night and that is exactly what happened here

Brentford deserve huge credit because they looked sharp, brave and well drilled, and the result will probably get turned into another Spurs crisis story far too quickly. But if you are Tottenham, the worrying part is not even the scoreline, it is how little control they seemed to have in any phase of the game and how easy it was for Brentford to make them look lost, and that is the kind of thing that starts eating at a club when the same questions keep coming back again and again and fans are left watching the same flat stuff week after week and wondering what on earth the point is anymore

The key difference was intensity. Brentford played with purpose, won their duels and kept Spurs uncomfortable, while Tottenham looked like they were reacting instead of dictating. When that happens, the technical gap does not matter much because the team with more energy usually looks better.

spurs just looked dead on their feet and brentford were all over them from the start there was no tempo no urgency no real plan and every time they tried to build something it fell apart straight away which is honestly mad considering the money talked about with this squad

There is a temptation to read this as a pure collapse, but Brentford also forced the issue well and made Spurs play at a pace they clearly didnt like. The underlying problem for Tottenham is that when the basics go missing, the quality on paper stops mattering.

i dont buy the whole its all spurs being useless thing because brentford made them look like that, they pressed well and were miles sharper and if you cant handle that then thats on you but people acting like brentford just turned up and got gifted everything are chatting bollocks

Tonali has to be one of the most bizarre talking points in all this because the fee, the hype and the actual output just do not line up at all and every time he is mentioned it feels like another reminder that Spurs have somehow managed to make a mess of things that should have been straightforward, he is supposed to be the sort of player who lifts a side and instead he looks like he is drifting through games without changing anything, and that is what makes the whole situation so maddening because fans were sold this idea of progress and quality and instead they are left watching a player who is meant to be central to everything do absolutely nothing and it is just infuriating at this point

It is one thing to lose away at a good side, and it is another to look this disconnected while doing it. Brentford were aggressive, organised and confident, and Tottenham seemed to have no answer at all, which is why people are already talking about deeper issues rather than just one bad result, because when you spend this much and still look this flat you start running out of excuses very quickly and the whole thing becomes embarrassing and exhausting and honestly a bit pathetic if you are a Spurs fan watching it unfold again and again
