Brighton want £80m for Minteh

Brighton have reportedly told Liverpool they want £80m for Yankuba Minteh, with the Reds not keen to meet that valuation. The previous £60m bid was seen as competitive but still got turned down, and Liverpool apparently won't come back in unless the price drops.

Feels like another classic late-window standoff where the selling club has all the leverage. Brighton seem to be in pure take-it-or-leave-it mode, while Liverpool are deciding whether this is a step too far.

What do people make of it - fair market madness, Brighton playing it perfectly, or Liverpool leaving it far too late again
 
Liverpool doing the usual wait till the last minute and then acting shocked when Brighton slap a nonsense number on it, proper self inflicted mess really, if you want a winger you dont stroll in late with a bid and expect a discount mate
 
On paper Brighton are absolutely entitled to ask what they want if they do not need to sell, and Liverpool are equally entitled to walk away if the number is too high. That is just how the market works. But at the same time this is exactly the sort of deal that becomes ridiculous because everyone waits until the window is nearly shut, the selling club knows the buying club is desperate, and suddenly every winger is worth a phone number. It is all very clever until the fans are the ones sat there watching the same names get linked for weeks while nothing happens, then the price doubles and everyone acts surprised. Absolute joke of a market, absolute joke of a system, every club taking the piss and then crying when the next one does it back
 
I dont care what the numbers say Minteh is not an £80m player and Liverpool fans need to stop pretending this is some hidden gem tax when the reality is Brighton are just rinsing clubs because they can, every time he gets linked people start acting like he is some unstoppable baller but then you look at the actual output and the fee starts looking absolutely mental, it is the same thing with every player who has one good spell and suddenly everyone is talking about elite potential and ceiling and all that bollocks, no one wants to admit theyre getting carried away by hype, the whole thing is a mess and if Liverpool pay anywhere near that they deserve all the slagging they get
 
The sensible reading is that Brighton have no urgency and Liverpool do, so the price is being set to reflect leverage rather than pure value. But that is only half the story because the whole market has become a circus where one club's desperation becomes another club's business model and suddenly every move gets framed like a masterstroke or a robbery. Fans spend all summer talking themselves into names, then the moment the fee is quoted everyone loses their mind and starts arguing about market inflation like it is a weather event. It is not, it is clubs making decisions and then pretending the consequences are shocking, which is why every deadline window turns into the same exhausting drama
 
Brighton are right to play hardball here. If they do not want to sell, or if they know Liverpool are short on time, then of course they are going to push the number up and see who blinks first. But from a Liverpool point of view this is exactly why leaving it late is so frustrating, because now every conversation turns into panic, every valuation becomes a battle, and the whole thing feels like it is spiralling out of control. I get why people say just pay it if you want the player, but it still feels like madness and im getting proper fed up with the whole circus now because every summer its the same bloody story and everyone acts like this is normal when it clearly isnt
 
I dont think this is just Brighton being greedy, if they genuinely see him as part of their setup then a late bid from Liverpool is always going to cost extra and thats fair enough really, clubs cant be expected to hand over starters for cheap just because the buyer left it late
 
And of course the officials in football finance will let this all happen because the whole transfer market is a joke, one club says 60 is competitive and another says 80 and suddenly everybody acts like that is normal while the rest of us are sitting there watching the same old power clubs try to bully their way through it, then when the price goes up the media spins it like Brighton are being unreasonable instead of admitting Liverpool are the ones trying to force a deal at the last minute, absolute nonsense from top to bottom and the whole thing stinks of people making rules as they go along
