Carragher on Chelsea’s keeper issue

Imagine spending all that money just to still be arguing about Sanchez in goal every week mate absolute comedy club stuff and then people want to pretend this is a minor issue like come on
 
I dont agree with the idea that Chelsea are one keeper away from suddenly being title challengers because thats just not how it works and people keep making it sound like a simple swap fixes everything when the whole squad still needs time and balance
 
The bigger point is that a keeper can hide a lot of flaws by making the routine moments routine. Chelsea do not have that safety net right now, so every mistake elsewhere feels worse than it is. That is why the position keeps coming up.
 
went down the pub with my mate who supports chelsea and he was absolutely fuming about this exact thing because every pint just turned into another rant about the keeper and by the third one he was saying the same stuff over and over that theyve spent a fortune and still havent fixed the one position everyone can see from a mile away and even the lads who dont watch them much were taking the piss because it is just such a chelsea thing to do really
 
I think the main issue is that Chelsea have made the goalkeeper debate into a future planning argument when the present is still not solved. If Penders is the idea then fine, but it means accepting a stopgap level now and that is always risky in a league this tight imo
 
people keep saying its just one position but in a tight league one position can be the difference between top four and chasing shadows all season and thats why the whole thing feels so frustrating because theyve been around this conversation for ages now
 
The measured point here is that elite goalkeepers usually raise a team’s points total because they reduce chaos and improve the level of trust in the back line, and that is why Carragher keeps using these examples. But the tangent is Chelsea themselves because they always seem to turn a very obvious squad issue into a philosophical debate about development, transition, future planning, and whether a young keeper might come good later. Fine, but while they are doing that they are still leaving themselves exposed now and it feels like they are forever one sensible decision behind everyone else
