Casemiro’s comments after Brazil’s elimination really land because they sound like a player who knows the weight of the shirt. He says they did their best, but that they disappointed the country and will be remembered as the generation that did not win the World Cup.

There’s a lot of sympathy in the comments, but also a fair bit of brutal reality. Brazil are still expected to be Brazil, yet the gap between reputation and results has been there for a while now.

What do people make of it all? Is this just the pressure of playing for a famous football nation, or is there something deeper going on with this Brazil side?

Brazil always get talked about like theyve got some divine right to win it every four years and then people act shocked when reality hits them in the face again, like yeah mate the shirt is heavy but so is the expectation tax

He looks like he is carrying the whole country on his back and that interview really showed it, but at the same time the criticism isnt coming from nowhere because Brazil have been stuck in this weird in between phase for years tbh

I was in the pub for the 2022 one and I still remember everyone going quiet after that Croatia match because it had that exact same feeling of Brazil somehow making it harder than it needed to be, and now you watch Casemiro come out after another elimination looking like he has the weight of the world on him and it just hits different, these lads grow up watching the legends, they wear the shirt, they hear the stories, and every generation gets told it has to be the one, so when it goes wrong it isnt just a defeat it becomes some national tragedy and people start talking like they have personally let everyone down, which is mad really because football is cruel and somebody has to lose, but for Brazil the losing seems to echo for years and years and every pub, every family chat, every little football debate turns into the same thing again and again

If you look at it properly, Brazil are not failing because the talent disappeared overnight, they are failing because the structure around that talent has not kept pace with the standard people still imagine for them. That is why every tournament turns into a referendum on the whole nation instead of just the team, and then one bad moment becomes a decade of baggage, which is ridiculous really because the sport moves on whether the fans do or not, and yet here we are again with another emotional interview and everyone acting like the sky has fallen in because Brazil did not win it, and I get it, I really do, but the way people pile on after one elimination is just nonstop misery, absolute madness, every cycle the same old nonsense and someone always ends up crying on camera while the internet tears them apart

casemiro looks completely done in these games and its brutal to watch but people acting like hes the only reason brazil keep falling short are just ignoring the bigger picture, the squad has had issues for ages and the pressure on them is insane anyway

i dont think its fair to say this is all on the players tho because brazil keep getting talked about like every tournament has to end in a trophy and that expectation is ridiculous, theyre still a strong side but not some unstoppable machine
