All 36 teams for the 2026/27 Champions League are now locked in and it feels like a proper weird one already. Two Norwegian clubs in the mix, two Turkish clubs too, and a few names in the pots that just don’t feel normal for this competition yet

The new format is starting to look a bit more balanced by quality, but the draw is still going to matter loads. Pot 4 especially feels like it could absolutely ruin someone’s night, or hand out some mad away trips and proper scenes

Also, some of the wishlist fixtures people are throwing around are already ridiculous. Real Madrid going north, Roma-Bodø back on the menu, and people just begging for the most cursed draw possible. Absolute chaos waiting to happen

The officials are going to have a field day with this format arent they because if the draw gives someone a nightmare travel schedule and then the ref starts waving cards like mad and booking people for nothing it becomes another one of those nights where nobody knows what the actual rules are, the whole thing already feels like it needs a sensible hand on it but instead you just know UEFA will dress it up as some grand event while the refs and assistants make it all about themselves and the fans end up losing their heads over bollocks decisions again

It does feel more balanced than last season, at least on paper. Pot four still looks dangerous though, so a few teams could get seriously punished by the draw.

I was in the pub last night and there was this old lad at the bar who kept saying the draw is the only thing that makes this competition worth watching now because everything else has been turned into a spreadsheet, and honestly he had a point because I remember years ago people actually getting excited about who you might meet and now everyone is just staring at pots like its a supermarket aisle, and then someone mentioned Bodø and the whole place started laughing because half of them still say it wrong, and by the end of it we were all arguing about whether a trip to Norway is better or worse than some random away day in Turkey and it felt like the kind of football nonsense you only get when the nights get colder and the beers get warmer

People keep saying the pots are balanced but imagine being one of the teams that gets stuck with a proper nightmare run because of one player or one club that just turns up and ruins your evening every single time, that is what this competition always does and it will be the same again, some so called big side will get dragged into a scrap by a team nobody fancied and then everyone will pretend it was obvious, meanwhile there will be one player in particular who somehow walks around like he owns the whole tournament and every fanbase will be sick of seeing his name, absolute merchant behaviour and I am already annoyed just thinking about it

The interesting bit is that the new format makes pot strength matter less in the traditional sense but more in terms of fixture balance because you can still end up with a really ugly set of away trips and that could swing the whole league phase, so yeah balanced pots are nice but the draw is still the real lottery

I agree that the pots look more even this time, but the draw will decide everything. A few awkward away trips can still make a huge difference in a league phase like this.

Honestly the whole thing is just mad because a few years ago you could look at the top pot and basically know the usual suspects but now you have all these teams from places people would never have expected and it makes the competition feel a bit more alive even if some of the old romance has gone, and I know people will moan about the format forever but I kind of like that there is now a proper chance of weird matchups and ridiculous travel and teams from Norway or Turkey or wherever else being right in the mix instead of just pretending the same eight clubs are the whole of Europe, and then you get the draw hype and everyone starts acting like a genius before a ball has even been picked and it is all just absolute nonsense but in a good way

its mad how people are talking like pot 4 is just free points now when last season it was full of teams that could actually hurt you and this time it still looks like one bad draw away from chaos, i think a lot of fans are underestimating how much the travel and the timing of these games can mess with a side especially if they have to go north and then straight into another awkward away day

The main difference this season is that the quality looks spread more evenly across the pots, so there may be fewer obvious mismatch nights. That should make the league phase feel a bit more competitive overall, even if the draw can still create a brutal schedule.
