Matt Law saying Xabi Alonso is already looking at a new No 1 after Robert Sanchez’s unconvincing displays has kicked off the usual chaos. If this is real, it feels like Chelsea have gone from calm confidence to full panic mode very quickly.

The name being linked is Emi Martinez, which would instantly make them even more hated at every ground in the country. On the other hand, plenty of people will say it is the most sensible thing Chelsea have done in ages if they really do think Sanchez is not the man.

It also says a lot about how quickly keeper opinion can turn. One bad showing and suddenly the whole plan looks shaky, while Villa fans are obviously looking at the wages and wondering if it makes sense for them too
 
Honestly i do not think people are being fair to Sanchez at all here because the bloke has had a rough time and yes he makes mistakes but every keeper gets judged twice as hard when the crowd is on his back and the first thing everyone does is jump straight to replace him after one bad display like he is some sort of lost cause when really the whole point of a new project is to give players a bit of backing and a bit of patience instead of binning them the second they wobble and then acting shocked when the next lad does the exact same thing because the environment is a mess and the pressure is ridiculous and if Chelsea do this again they are just admitting they have no clue what they want from a keeper and it is all just vibes and panic and Twitter clips
 
The officials and the whole way keepers are judged in this league is a joke honestly because one mistake gets turned into a full on narrative and then everyone acts like the decision was obvious from day one and the refs never help either with how much they allow attackers to go at keepers and make every little touch look like a foul or not a foul depending on the mood of the day and then the media pile on and suddenly a keeper is finished after a single game and the club is forced into this nonsense where every transfer becomes damage control rather than actual planning and it is all so reactionary and stupid and then people wonder why teams keep changing goalkeepers every five minutes
 
The sensible reading here is that a club has identified a weakness and wants to act early rather than sit on their hands, and from a pure squad-building point of view that is understandable because a goalkeeper can shape everything behind him, but once you start talking about Chelsea and a keeper linked with Villa and an Argentinian World Cup star tag and all that baggage it becomes less about the football and more about the theatre of it all, because the moment that name gets mentioned everyone starts imagining the crowd reactions, the needle, the headlines, the inevitable memes, and then somehow the conversation shifts from whether the current number one is reliable to whether the whole club is becoming the most hated side in the country and that is such a Chelsea thing to do that I can almost hear the collective groan already
 
If Chelsea really do this then it is hard not to see the logic on paper because Sanchez has never looked totally convincing and keepers need trust more than almost any other position, but at the same time it still feels like such a Chelsea move to create a problem, look at the problem, then spend a fortune to make the problem disappear and call it smart business. Then again if you are the one getting booed every week and your own fans are already on your case maybe the club has decided enough is enough and they would rather be hated than stressed, which is honestly fair enough because this whole thing is starting to feel like a soap opera and I am fully here for the chaos now
 
chelsea fans were saying give him time like last week and now its panic stations after one iffy performance thats football twitter for you proper laughable really
 
imagine seeing sanchez once and deciding yeah scrap that lets get the argentinian chaos merchant instead absolute elite club behaviour from chelsea as always
 
The underlying logic is pretty simple, Chelsea do not trust Sanchez and they would rather move early than wait for the issue to become a season long problem. But the emotional side of it is hilarious because they have spent ages trying to sell the idea that everything is calm and now one game later the whole thing looks like a fire drill and you just know every rival fan is going to feast on this for months because it is exactly the sort of decision that looks smart if it works and completely deranged if it does not and somehow Chelsea always end up living in that second category and i swear if they pull this off and he turns into a wall then fair play but if not it is going to be relentless
