Chelsea set £50m+ price for Delap

Chelsea reportedly want £50million+ for Liam Delap, which is a pretty wild number for a player they only brought in a year ago from Ipswich Town. If they really are prepared to cash in that quickly, it says a lot about how they see his situation right now.

Nottingham Forest and Everton are said to be interested, which makes this even more interesting. Whether this is smart business or just Chelsea doing Chelsea things, it feels like another one of those transfers that could go absolutely one way or the other.

Chelsea really do live in a different universe sometimes because how do you sign a 23 year old from Ipswich and then a year later have a £50m+ price tag on him like its all normal, if the lad is out of sorts fair enough but this whole thing just screams chaos to me, Forest and Everton sniffing around as well is proper funny because suddenly everyone is acting like this is a sensible market move when its clearly just another mad Premier League tax situation and I honestly dont know whether to laugh or cry at it

chelsea and the 50m ask again mate every time they dont fancy someone its straight to the moon with the valuation, forest and everton can have a go if they want but this is the kind of number that makes the whole thing feel like a joke now

Out of sorts striker attracting interest from forest and everton sounds like the start of a football pyramid scheme honestly chelsea will sell you a lad for fifty million then act shocked when no one bites proper comedy club stuff

People are already acting like Delap is some disaster signing because Chelsea might want to move him on but that is exactly the sort of lazy take that gets thrown around whenever a club has a rough spell, he is 23 and has not even had proper time to settle before everyone starts calling him finished, the issue is bigger than one striker anyway because Chelsea keep chopping and changing and then the player gets the blame when it does not click, if they really do value him at £50m+ then that is their business and maybe they think someone will pay it, but writing him off after a year is ridiculous and honestly if he goes somewhere else and scores a few then the same lot will pretend they always rated him so yeah give the lad a chance before the usual pile on starts ffs

If this is about Delap being out of sorts then fair enough but the real problem is Chelsea keep doing this thing where one minute a player is the future and the next minute he is being priced like a luxury item nobody asked for, and people will still ignore the context and just scream about the striker as if he is the only reason things look messy, that is not how football works, he is not magically the whole issue, the service, the setup, the pressure, all of it matters, and yet every time it is the same target on his back stuff, he gets blamed for everything, the fanbase turns, the pundits pile in, and suddenly the lad is supposed to fix a club that has been in constant flux since he arrived, it is actually maddening watching one player get turned into the scapegoat while the wider mess gets a free pass, absolute bollocks

A £50million+ asking price suggests Chelsea still believe there is a market for him, even if his current form is not convincing. The interesting part is whether Forest or Everton would spend that kind of money on an out-of-sorts striker, because that feels like the real test of the story.

Chelsea love a quick flip dont they sign a lad from Ipswich blink twice and suddenly he costs more than my house, forest and everton fans must be reading this like someone is winding them up in a group chat

Chelsea doing Chelsea things again, somehow the price tag always goes up even when the form doesnt, proper estate agent energy tbh

This one just feels weird to me because I remember when everyone was talking about the move and now we are already at the cash in stage, it is giving me whiplash a bit and I cant tell if Im more surprised by the valuation or by how normal this kind of thing has become

Nah I dont buy the whole hes out of sorts so he must be done thing, that is such a lazy way to look at it and it ignores how Chelsea have been all over the place with players lately, maybe the price is silly but the idea that Delap is suddenly worthless is just nonsense

If Chelsea are serious about that valuation, they are either protecting the asset or trying to force the market to do the work for them. Either way, it suggests they do not see him as a panic sale. The bigger question is whether his role has been the problem or whether the club simply want to move on quickly.

There is a decent argument that Chelsea are just testing the waters here because a £50m+ price on a 23 year old who is reportedly out of sorts is the sort of figure that either scares people away or gets one desperate bidder to blink first, and from a pure business angle that is understandable, but football never stays that neat does it because once a player is labelled like this the whole story becomes about value rather than development and then everyone starts pretending they know exactly what he is worth, what he is not worth, who ruined him, who can rescue him, and the whole thing spirals into nonsense, I swear every time a club like Chelsea is involved the discussion becomes less about the player and more about people wanting to dunk on the club or defend the club or argue about some imaginary masterplan and it is exhausting because maybe the simplest explanation is just that they bought a striker, it has not worked out cleanly, and now they are trying to maximise what they can get before it gets worse, but of course that is far too sensible so now we get the usual internet meltdown over a number and a lad who has barely had time to breathe, absolute circus honestly
