Cherki changes it again for City

Bournemouth were hanging on for ages and then just let the whole thing slip right through their hands, proper comedy stuff from them when the pressure went up

Cherki gave City more verticality and forced Bournemouth to defend deeper almost immediately. Once that happened, the late winner felt much more likely because the space around the box opened up.

The key detail is how quickly the game changed after Cherki entered the pitch. That suggests the issue was not just finishing, but the lack of penetration before he came on.

I get why people are going on about Cherki because he clearly gave the side a spark and changed the mood as soon as he came on, but I do think Bournemouth deserve a bit more respect than they are getting here because holding City that long is not nothing and a lot of teams would have folded much earlier. They worked hard, kept their shape, and for most of the game they made it awkward, so when people reduce it to just City being inevitable it feels a bit lazy to me, football is not always about the final moment, sometimes it is about the hours of defending and the frustration and the way one mistake ruins everything at the end and that is brutal but it does not mean the whole performance was rubbish
