City charges dragging on forever

There are two separate issues here: the length of the process and the eventual verdict. The delay is embarrassing for the game, but it does not automatically tell us what the result should be. Until the decision is made, everyone is just projecting their own hopes and frustrations onto it.

city fans will be celebrating this like a trophy because the longer it drags on the more they get to pretend its normal absolute masterclass in waiting around

The scale of the delay is the main issue here, not the clever statistics. It makes the eventual outcome feel less credible before it even arrives.

A case this serious should never have been allowed to drift for this long. If the authorities wanted to preserve confidence, they needed a quicker and clearer process from the start. Instead, every passing month turns the verdict into a punchline and gives everyone a new reason to doubt the whole system.

A measured point is that the delay has already done real damage to how people view the league because even those who do not care about City can see how bizarre it is that this has gone on for so long and that is the part that should worry everyone rather than just the eventual punishment itself because trust once lost is hard to win back and football already runs on enough nonsense as it is but then you get into the wider issue of how every big case seems to end up buried under process and caution and legal speak until the public stops paying attention and then suddenly a decision appears and everyone is meant to shrug and move on which is exactly why these things keep feeling like they are being handled by people who have never once had to explain themselves in a pub full of angry fans and honestly the whole sport is one long exercise in taking the piss when it comes to accountability
