City linked with Enzo for €120m

People are going to laugh at this because it is City and because it is a huge fee but if Chelsea really do even think about it then they are the ones taking the risk here, Enzo is one of the few names in that squad that still gives you something to build around and selling him would just invite another round of chaos and memes and all the usual nonsense, and honestly I do not care what anyone says about value or balancing books or whatever, sometimes you just have to keep a player who matters and stop acting like every big offer is some genius move from the board

City fans acting like this is normal while everyone else is sat there wondering what fresh madness this is, if Chelsea actually say yes then the whole timeline is going to melt and if they say no then we get another week of people arguing about whether the bid even existed in the first place

At face value this looks like a move for control and quality in midfield, and if Maresca genuinely wants Enzo then there is at least a footballing logic to it. But the more you sit with it the more ridiculous it becomes because the fee is massive, the timing is weird, and the whole thing has that familiar transfer smell where everybody is pretending certainty without any actual confirmation, and then you end up watching fans tear each other apart over a rumour that might never even make it to the serious stage, which is exactly why this sport drives people insane

If the report is accurate, City are clearly targeting a specific midfield profile. Chelsea still hold the leverage, though, so the story only matters if they are willing to engage.

If this actually happens then fair enough but right now it just feels like another one of those transfer circus stories where the officials in the background are letting it all slide and nobody can tell who even said what first, and somehow the whole thing ends up being treated like gospel because one report drops a giant number and everyone runs with it, the refereeing of transfer news is honestly just as bad as the actual refs sometimes because nobody gets held to account and the noise keeps building until the whole thing is a mess and then when it collapses everyone acts shocked like they had not spent two days screaming about it already

Chelsea have to be careful here because once a fee like this is floating around the whole mood changes and people start acting like the sale is inevitable, but if they lose Enzo after all the talk then it is going to look brutal and City will be blamed for everything as usual and the entire thing will turn into a huge circus and honestly i can already see the meltdown and the excuses and the think pieces and the endless arguments about whether it was ambition or just another flex and it is all a bit much really

This would only make sense if City believe Enzo fits a very specific role in their midfield structure. The fee is enormous, so Chelsea would need to decide whether the money is worth more than the stability he provides.
