City's £106m Anderson bid is mad

I dont agree with the idea that this means every midfielder is now worth 100m because clubs still have to decide who is actually elite and who is just expensive due to the market and the fit matters too and City are clearly paying for a very specific profile rather than just buying a name

The fee is outrageous, but it is also a reflection of scarcity. If a club wants a specific midfielder and there are few alternatives available, the price gets pushed up quickly. That does not mean the player is overhyped, just that the market is distorted.

It is a huge fee, but it also shows how much value clubs place on the right profile. City probably think he is worth it if he fits exactly what they want.

City are basically paying for certainty and upside at the same time and thats why these fees keep ballooning because if you want a ready made top level midfielder in this league then every selling club knows they can squeeze you for every last penny and there is always another buyer waiting in the background

The quoted fee is already massive before add-ons are even considered. That is the modern market for you.

Manchester City are obviously not the first club to push a huge fee, but this one still feels different because the numbers are getting so detached from what fans think of as a normal transfer and it keeps happening every window and it just makes the whole thing feel absurd, like clubs have decided there is no ceiling anymore and every negotiation is just about who blinks first, which is mad enough on its own, but then you remember there are still teams trying to compete without that kind of money and it becomes even more ridiculous because how are they meant to keep up when even a midfielder can cost this much and honestly the whole market is a joke at this point

Was in the pub earlier and even the lads who barely watch football were laughing at this because someone read out the fee and everyone just went silent for a second then started taking the piss out of the whole league and that is the thing really once transfer prices get to this level it stops sounding like football and starts sounding like someone making numbers up after too many pints and yet here we are with clubs acting like this is perfectly reasonable and somehow the rest of us are meant to nod along and pretend it makes sense

On one hand you can understand why City would value the player highly if he fits the role they want and on the other hand the fee is still absolutely grotesque for a midfielder in any normal world. But normal world is gone now, isnt it, because every club in the league keeps feeding the monster and then everyone acts surprised when the monster gets bigger and bigger and now we are here with another mega bid and another round of people saying it is fine because he has potential and honestly I am sick of it

People keep acting like Forest are being greedy for wanting a massive fee but if a club comes in with that kind of money then of course you squeeze them because smaller clubs get told to be clever and sell smart every single year while the rich clubs get praised for ambition when they throw around sums that can change a whole club's future and honestly if Forest can get that much then good on them because they are not the ones breaking the market and they are not the ones making the rest of the league impossible to compete with

City are paying for scarcity and fit as much as talent, and that is why the number looks so insane. I still think it is too much, but it is not random imo
