City's Enzo banner has the internet in stitches

The main issue is not really the banner itself, it is the fact that it feels so obviously manufactured. A fan-made tifo usually has a bit of roughness and personality, whereas this looks like it was signed off by a PR department. That is why people are calling it corporate slop rather than just a harmless gesture.

i actually laughed out loud when i saw it because my first thought was not even football it was some office welcome home banner for a bloke who had been on maternity leave or something, then i realised it was for city and suddenly it made even more sense in the worst way because of course it would look that polished and soulless and of course the internet would rip it to shreds straight away

I get why people are laughing, but it is also a pretty harmless bit of colour before a game and not everything needs to be turned into a massive moral crisis imo

Tactically, the banner does exactly what these things are meant to do: it creates a focal point and gives the cameras something to latch onto before kick-off. The problem is that the visual style is so sterile that the reaction is more about branding than football.

There is a difference between a bit of club pageantry and something that feels fully corporate, and this seems to sit awkwardly between the two. I can see why some fans would find it funny while others think it strips away any genuine atmosphere.
