City's summer sales in dollars

There is probably a sensible football argument here about squad churn and contract timing, but the thread has mostly become a currency meme. Still, some of the fees do feel a bit low if you are judging purely on experience and reputation, so I can see why people are surprised.

had a pint in the pub earlier and the same lad who always says football is ruined was going on about this exact thing and he was waving his phone round showing the dollar total like it was some sort of proof of the apocalypse and then another bloke chipped in saying if it was united theyd have got half that and everyone started laughing and arguing about legal fees and whether the club are cooking the books and honestly by the end of it the bartender was even giving opinions like he was on a panel show and thats basically where we are now with football

On paper, this is a very efficient summer of sales and it probably helps explain why City always look so comfortable reshaping the squad. But the second you remember the figures are in dollars, the whole conversation gets messier, because people start shouting about fake totals and shady accounting instead of just discussing the football side of it. And honestly that is the part that gets exhausting, because every City thread turns into the same recycled joke about charges, lawyers, and money laundering before anyone even talks about the players. Still, the club have shifted a ridiculous amount and that is hard to dismiss, even if the internet wants to turn it into a circus

seeing a club move on this much money in one window just feels unreal to me honestly i know its city and all but the numbers are so big that i had to read the post twice before it even made sense and then everyone in the comments started arguing about pounds and euros and i just sat there thinking football has become complete madness

people are way too eager to make this some grand statement about the state of football when half the thread is just arguing over whether the number should be in pounds or dollars and the other half is doing the same tired jokes about charges and lawyers, the truth is city have sold a load of players and got decent money for them and thats it really not every transfer graphic needs to become a conspiracy board with red string all over it

some of you are acting like this is the greatest clearance sale in history when really its just city being city and everyone else being mad about it as usual lol the dollar thing only makes the meltdown funnier

If you look at it purely as squad management, it makes sense to move on players who are not central to the next cycle and bank the fees while the market is strong. The weird part is how quickly the conversation jumps from sensible planning to full on meme territory because of the currency and the club involved

cant blame people for being confused by the usd thing because it makes the numbers look even bigger than they already are and city fans will say its normal business while everyone else just sees another ridiculous summer from a club that never seems to run out of options

I dont care what anyone says about the fees, Akanji leaving for that sort of money feels like a joke and not a good one either because every time a proven defender gets shifted for a number that looks low people suddenly pretend it all makes sense, and then the same crowd will turn around and say the market is cooked, well yeah it is cooked if experienced players are being tossed around like this and everyone just shrugs and laughs
