Class from Balogun in the middle of a proper mess

The officials and everyone above them have managed to make a normal football situation look like a complete shitshow and then the poor player in the middle gets dragged through it like he is meant to explain the whole universe, its ridiculous really because if someone does not want to be part of the noise then they should not be forced into it and what Balogun did by speaking to Garcia should have been the end of it, instead you get all this extra drama and people acting like the match itself is secondary to the nonsense around it which is exactly why fans are so fed up with the way these things are handled, it just keeps getting worse and nobody seems accountable

people trying to pin this on balogun are just embarrassing themselves really because he didnt choose the circus and he didnt ask to be the face of anything he just ended up in the middle of a stupid situation and still went over to speak properly which is more respect than a lot of people online would ever show if they were in his boots and then the same lot want to act morally superior about it like theyve never watched football before

he did what any decent player would do and went to speak to the coach instead of sulking about it but some fans act like every moment has to be a statement and not just a human reaction to a weird situation its mad how quickly people turn a footballer into a symbol for whatever issue theyre already angry about

From a football point of view this is just another reminder that off pitch noise can bleed into the performance and that is probably the only interesting angle here, because once the match becomes a backdrop to everything else the players are always the ones left trying to reset their heads and get on with it, which is easier said than done

The sensible read is that Balogun probably gained more respect by dealing with it directly than he would have by saying nothing. Garcia acknowledging that it was not his fault is also the right move because it keeps the focus on the football rather than forcing one player to absorb all the noise.

If anything this is one of those situations where the public reaction tells you more than the event itself because the actual footballing bit is almost secondary now, Balogun went to speak to the coach, Garcia handled it with class, and that should be that, but of course the internet has to turn it into a giant moral drama with everyone picking sides and overexplaining themselves and pretending they know what he should have done, when in reality he probably just wanted the whole thing to stop being weird, which is fair enough, and the way some people are still trying to make him the story instead of the people who created the mess is genuinely exhausting and a bit pathetic if im honest

Balogun gets a lot of unnecessary noise around him because of the bigger situation, but speaking to Garcia straight away was the right move imo

I was in the pub when this came up and everyone around the table had a different take within about ten seconds which is always how it goes with football drama isnt it one bloke saying fair play to Balogun another saying its all nonsense and another lad just laughing because he thinks every international story turns into a soap opera, and to be honest I sort of get all of it because the player probably just wanted to get on with his night and instead ended up as the centre of a whole storm that he never asked for, and once that happens you are basically doomed to get quoted, memed, argued over and dragged into stuff that has nothing to do with your actual game, proper mental really

Garcia saying it was not on Balogun is exactly the kind of straightforward answer people should want from a coach. It stops the blame game and lets the player breathe a bit, which is important because once a lad gets caught in a nonsense situation every comment gets magnified and everyone starts projecting their own anger onto him, and honestly it is exhausting watching people twist a footballer into a stand in for all their frustrations when he has clearly done nothing wrong and just tried to handle it with some dignity and that should be the end of it really but the online football world never lets anything end cleanly
