Colombia's disallowed goal vs Portugal

That offside call has absolutely done the rounds, and you can see why. It is one of those moments where everyone in the ground and at home is just staring at the screen thinking, how on earth did that get flagged

The lineman must have had a split second to judge it, but from the reaction alone this has got people fuming and laughing in equal measure. Football does love a tiny margin turning into absolute scenes

Feels like the kind of decision that gets replayed for years whenever these two come up again. Some will say the flag had to go up, others will say it is madness, but either way it has got everyone talking

How the hell do you even spot that in real time mate, proper witchcraft from the lino or just blind luck because that is outrageous

Officials always manage to make these moments about themselves dont they, one tiny thing and suddenly the whole game gets twisted by a flag nobody can properly explain, the lino is miles away guessing at pixels and then the ref just waves it through like its nothing, absolutely maddening when a match gets decided by that sort of bollocks because the players do everything right and some bloke with a whistle and a bit of plastic decides he wants the spotlight

Fair play, if you are going to rule that out then you have to be consistent every single time, because that is the only way these microscopic offsides make any sense at all. But honestly this is exactly why people hate the modern game sometimes, one frame here, one angle there, then everyone is pretending it is crystal clear when it is really just guesswork dressed up as precision. And somehow the conversation always ends up being about the officials, the cameras, the graphics, the lines, the whole circus around it, and not the actual football, which is a shame because nobody goes to watch a competition just to argue over a toe and a shoulder and whatever else got dragged into the decision

If they are going to keep calling these by a tiny body part then football is just going to get more and more annoying for everyone watching because no one can celebrate properly anymore, one second its a goal and the next second some graphic says no because a boot was ahead by the width of a fingernail, and then the whole stadium has to sit there while the officials stare at screens like they are solving a crime, it kills the moment completely and then people wonder why fans lose it at refs all the time because this sort of thing is exactly why, it feels less like football and more like an argument about geometry and I am sick of it

The decision may have been technically correct if the angle is right, but it is still the kind of call that frustrates everyone. When margins are this small, the emotion of the game gets completely flattened. It is hard not to feel for the attacking side.

nah i dont buy the whole its technically correct thing because if fans need a science lesson to understand a goal then the game has already lost the plot and people acting like this is fine are just gaslighting everyone into thinking a toe is a clear offside

That attacker is going to be hearing about this for ages because people love turning one tiny moment into a meme and I get it, but honestly it is grim how much stick one player takes for a call like this when the system is the issue, not him, and then you get the usual crowd saying well if it is offside it is offside like that somehow makes it less stupid, it doesnt, it just means we are all pretending the technology and the angles are perfect when half the time it looks like a guess with extra steps and I am absolutely fed up of seeing players punished for margins that nobody in real time can properly judge
