A measured take is that the officials may well have had a better view than the broadcast, and in that case the decision is at least understandable. But once you start showing fans a vague replay and asking them to trust it, you are already in trouble. Then everyone starts doing the usual thing, arguing about conspiracy, arguing about bias, arguing about who got lucky, and suddenly a football match becomes a full blown internet tribunal. Honestly that is where the whole sport is heading at this rate and it is exhausting

I do not care what anyone says Croatia did not deserve that ending because they kept going and kept fighting and then it all gets taken away by people in a booth staring at screens like they are solving a crime scene, the lads on the pitch have to live with the result but the fans are the ones who get left with that horrible empty feeling and it is not fair to turn a moment like that into a lecture about technology when the real story is a team getting punished at the worst possible time

i get why youd defend the decision but saying the replay was obvious is a stretch because half the thread is literally saying they cant see anything and that is the whole issue here

If you strip the emotion out of it, the real problem is that the public never got a decisive angle, and that is what turns a normal review into a full blown controversy. People can live with a tight call if they can see the evidence, but when the best footage still leaves room for argument then the whole thing becomes a mess. And honestly the longer you stare at it the worse it gets because the drama takes over and everyone starts shouting about luck and robbery and whatever else, and then you end up with Portugal surviving and Croatia feeling cursed and the rest of us just sat there thinking what on earth was that, absolute madness, proper football nonsense, I swear these late calls are going to send me over the edge
