Cubarsí leading the Golden Boy race

people always overreact to this sort of thing like its some final judgement on a players whole career when really its just a snapshot of how hyped he is right now and barca lads are obviously gonna be all over it because hes one of theirs
 
If he is leading now, that probably reflects both his talent and the level of attention he gets from playing for a massive club. The bigger question is whether the race rewards the most complete player or just the one with the strongest buzz at the moment.

Honestly the whole thing is just another reminder that football online has become a giant hype machine where one talented youngster gets pushed into the spotlight and then every conversation turns into a verdict before the story has even finished, and i get why people are excited because leading a race like this is a big sign of respect, but at the same time it feels like nobody can wait to see how a player develops anymore they just want the headline and the argument and then they move on to the next one, and if Cubarsi slips up once the exact same people who are praising him today will be in there calling him overrated and thats what annoys me most about it because it is never balanced, just constant overreaction
 
barca always get this sort of buzz with young lads though so i wouldnt get carried away yet still fair play to him if hes genuinely top of the list
 
I know people love to roll their eyes at these lists but if a defender is leading a race like this then that says something about how much he has stood out, because defenders usually have to do twice the work to get the same recognition as an attacker and they still get ignored half the time. So yeah maybe it is just hype maybe it changes tomorrow maybe someone else catches him but right now it is not some random nonsense, it is a reflection of how well regarded he is and that should be allowed to mean something instead of everyone instantly pretending it is meaningless because it is easier to sound clever that way, proper weird behaviour
 
It probably says more about how people view him than about the award itself. Still, if you are a young centre-back and everyone is talking about you this much, you are clearly doing something right imo
 
The real issue here is that people are already turning Cubarsi into some kind of perfect young defender and that never ends well because the second he has a rough patch the same crowd will start dissecting every mistake like he is finished, and it happens to so many young players where the praise gets so over the top that the backlash is waiting round the corner, and then everyone acts like the player somehow failed them when really they built the whole thing up themselves, ridiculous cycle
 
Saw this while sitting in the pub and one of the older lads at the bar asked who Cubarsi even was and then another fella immediately started explaining the whole Golden Boy thing like he was on Sky Sports, proper funny scene because within two minutes it had turned into three different opinions and a debate about whether these awards matter at all, football chat really can take over anywhere
