Djed Spence has absolutely arrived

Spurs fans must be loving this because every time one of their lads does something big it turns into a full on identity crisis for everyone else, one minute hes a squad player and the next minute hes got people calling him a tournament legend, football is ridiculous like that and i am absolutely here for it lol
 
People need to stop pretending every good game from him is some surprise because the lad has had the tools for ages and the issue was never some lack of talent it was the way he was used and the way people spoke about him as if he was already done, that tackle was elite but what really annoys me is how quickly people rush to decide a player is useless after a rough spell, then one big moment happens and suddenly everyone is acting like they always knew, absolute nonsense, let the player breathe and maybe you dont end up looking daft every five minutes
 
The best defenders in tournaments usually look simple rather than flashy because their timing is what stands out, and Spence has had that about him here. He is not diving in, he is not overcommitting, he is just arriving with the right weight and the right angle. But honestly the way some people have talked about him over the years has been mad and now they all want to pretend they were always on side, football memory is so fake sometimes and it does my head in
 
ive been saying for ages that people were way too quick to write him off and now everyones acting like they saw this coming, hes been solid and the tackle was huge but the way fans flip so fast is honestly hilarious
 
That tackle works because he has already set the tone with his positioning. He is not chasing the game, he is controlling the space in front of him, which is exactly what you want from a fullback in a tight match.
 
I was in the pub watching it and the whole place just went mental when he made that tackle, proper noise and everyone on our table started shouting like we had won something already, and then this bloke at the bar who had been chatting absolute rubbish about him all night suddenly went quiet and stared at the screen like he had just seen a ghost, honestly football moments like that are the best because you can feel the whole room change in a second and even the neutral lads were laughing because the timing was perfect and it just had that big tournament energy about it
 
The sensible read is that Spence has been benefiting from a role that suits his strengths, because he looks much more comfortable when he can defend forward and attack the ball early. That said, the reaction around him is starting to get a bit carried away and now every conversation about him turns into a referendum on Spurs, managers, and who was right years ago, which is funny because a single tackle should probably not become a whole culture war but football fans will football fan and here we are
