EA Sports back Spain for 2026

EA Sports have apparently gone with Spain to win the 2026 World Cup, after getting the last four winners right. That is either a genuinely eerie stat or just the kind of thing football fans will never let go of until it eventually blows up in their face.

The funny part is how many different “last X winners” predictors are all out there, all claiming some kind of magic. One says Spain, one says Netherlands, someone else is probably waiting to tell us Egypt were robbed by the simulation.

Still, Spain do look like a serious shout on paper if the pieces stay fit. But this is international football, so all the model talk in the world can still get wrecked by one red card, one injury, or one weird night.

Spain make sense if you look at the squad balance and the recent form of their key players. The issue is always whether the model has accounted for knockout chaos, because international tournaments are rarely that neat.

It is a decent shout if you trust the squad quality, but these prediction systems always get treated like gospel once they have a decent record. One bad tournament and everyone will pretend they were never serious tbh

People keep acting like this is some amazing football brain when really it is just the same old hype machine with a fresh coat of paint and people love to overrate whoever is trending at the time and Spain always get this treatment now because they have a few shiny names and everyone wants to talk about the midfield like it is some sacred relic but if the big lads are not fit and if one of them is off form then all that beautiful talk goes straight in the bin and the whole thing collapses and then we will be hearing about how the model was never meant to be taken literally and honestly I am already tired of hearing about the same predictions every cycle

You can call Spain the obvious pick all you want but they are still a proper good side and people are underrating how much that matters in a World Cup where so many teams are built on vibes and one superstar carrying dead legs around the pitch. They have quality across the spine, they have players who can keep the ball, and they have enough control to make ugly games look comfortable which is exactly what you need in a tournament like this. Everyone loves to say favourites always choke but sometimes the favourites are just favourites because they are actually the best team and not because of some conspiracy or EA magic and if Spain go and do it then people will suddenly pretend it was inevitable all along

A measured point is that Spain are a sensible favourite if you want a model to lean on current quality rather than old reputation. But the whole conversation around prediction systems is hilarious because once one gets a few calls right, everyone starts attaching mystical powers to it, then another one says Netherlands, another says Spain, and somebody else is sat there shouting about Egypt like the universe owes them a joke. It turns into a tournament of predictors rather than a tournament of teams, and that is probably more entertaining than half the actual group stage debates we get every four years

I dont get why people are acting like Spain are finished already just because someone else had them as a favourite, they literally just won the Euros and if their best players are fit then they are still one of the strongest teams around, all this sneering is just people trying to sound clever because the prediction came from EA and not some bloke on a podcast

spain are a solid shout imo but people are acting like the game is already won and thats the part that annoys me, one injury and one bad draw can change everything and all the confident takes will look silly real quick

Spain are a strong favourite, but the World Cup rarely follows the neatest script. That is what makes the prediction interesting.

Netherlands fans in here acting like their bloke with the spreadsheet is some sort of prophet when the whole thing is basically football tarot cards and I respect the confidence but come on mate it is still just a prediction machine with a fancy badge on it

The officials will probably decide half of it anyway and then we will all be sat there wondering why the same old nonsense keeps happening, because every World Cup has that one run where the refereeing becomes the main character and suddenly everyone is talking about VAR, handballs, soft reds, added time and whether the tournament is fixed by incompetence rather than talent and if Spain do win then somebody will say the refs helped them, if they lose somebody will say the refs robbed them, and if the favourites crash out the officials will somehow still take the blame because that is where football has got to now

I can see why people are taking Spain seriously because the logic is there and the squad does look very strong on paper, but the way fans talk about these simulations always gets out of hand. One minute it is a fun bit of trivia, the next it is being treated like proof that destiny has already been decided and everyone else should just go home and stop bothering to play, which is ridiculous, and if Spain do not win then the same people will be furious and if they do win they will act like they always knew it, football discourse is cooked honestly

Spain are a reasonable pick given the recent success and the quality in their squad. But the whole point of tournament football is that favourites still have to survive chaos, and that is where any model can fall apart.
